TV-Series
Description
Laios Touden is a tallman swordsman who leads a small adventuring party. He was born on November 26 and is twenty six years old. He comes from the northern continent and spent part of his youth feeling like an outsider because of his intense interest in monsters, an interest that alienated him from most people in his home town. He later joined the army hoping to find acceptance but still felt out of place. Eventually he left the military and went to the magic school where his younger sister Falin was studying, and the two ran away together to make a life in the dungeon.
Laios is calm and gentle by nature, but he becomes extremely animated and passionate when the topic turns to monsters. He speaks quickly and makes large gestures, a sharp contrast to his usual reserved demeanor. He struggles with social cues and often says things that are taken the wrong way by his companions, even when his intentions are good. He has trouble expressing his emotions clearly and frequently relies on his sister to help translate his feelings for others. Despite these difficulties, he is unfailingly friendly and accepting toward nearly everyone he meets, including orcs and other races that others might view as enemies. He does not hold grudges and prefers direct honesty over reading between the lines.
His primary motivation is the rescue of his sister Falin, who was eaten by a red dragon while saving the rest of the party. He organizes a new expedition to find her before she is fully digested, and he insists on cooking and eating monsters to sustain the group as they descend deeper into the dungeon. This approach is not merely practical; it also reflects his lifelong curiosity about monster biology, ecology, and what monsters taste like. He genuinely wants to understand monsters rather than simply destroy them.
In the story, Laios acts as the leader and front line fighter of his party. He wields a longsword and wears metal armor, and he is a strong and capable combatant. His extensive knowledge of monsters gives him an unusual strategic advantage: he can identify creatures by sound, predict their behavior, and develop techniques to fight them based on what he has learned from cooking their bodies. He often devises creative solutions that blend combat with culinary experimentation.
Laios shares a deep and supportive bond with his sister Falin. She is the person who understands him best, and he in turn prioritizes her safety above all else. His relationship with Marcille is complicated by his tendency to say insensitive things without meaning to, but he values her as a powerful mage and a friend, and he consistently tries to protect her. He respects Chilchuck for his practical expertise and often relies on his judgment, even when Chilchuck scolds him for his recklessness. He forms a close partnership with Senshi, who shares his enthusiasm for monster cooking and helps turn his curiosity into edible meals. Laios also befriends the beastkin Izutsumi, though she often finds him strange, and he remains persistently friendly toward her.
Over the course of the journey, Laios grows from a somewhat naive and socially awkward leader into a more strategic and self aware thinker. He begins to better understand the perspectives of his companions and learns to balance his obsession with monsters against the needs of the group. His knowledge of dungeon ecology deepens and eventually connects to the ancient magic that governs the dungeon itself. In the climax of the story, he confronts the dungeon's central entity and applies everything he has learned about monsters, cooking, and cooperation to protect his friends and restore balance to the dungeon.
Notable abilities include his proficiency with a longsword, his encyclopedic knowledge of monster anatomy and behavior, and his talent for improvising edible meals from dungeon creatures, which in turn gives him insight into how to defeat them. He is also a capable tactician in monster encounters, using environmental details and creature habits to outmaneuver opponents. Outside of combat and cooking, he struggles with social interaction and does not easily grasp unspoken expectations.
