Gato Nenehawk, also called Gat, Gatty, or Gatti Nenehawk, is an American of Native American heritage, specifically from an Indian tribe. He possesses brown hair and striking golden eyes. Gato stands as the unwavering protector of Hazel Grosse, constantly at Hazel's side after their shared journey from the West. Together, their singular mission is the eradication of all Yokai to forge a world exclusively for humans.

Gato's absolute loyalty springs from a life debt. Having died in the past, Hazel's power resurrected him. This act bound Gato to Hazel, compelling him to dedicate his existence to Hazel's protection as repayment, even though Gato outwardly maintains an emotionally distant stance. Consequently, his protection of Hazel is unconditional and relentless.

In battle against Yokai, Gato wields twin revolvers with lethal precision. Hazel's powers augment his abilities significantly: he feels no physical pain, cannot die due to Hazel's instantaneous healing of any injury, and requires neither sleep nor sustenance as a consequence of this mystical bond.

Personality-wise, Gato remains perpetually silent and reserved. He speaks only when directly addressed, typically projecting an aura of detachment and gloom.
