Diavolo serves as the primary antagonist in the fifth part of the series and the boss of the Passione crime organization. Born under mysterious circumstances to a female prisoner in the summer of 1967, his mother insisted she endured a two-year pregnancy with no father involved. Sent to Sardinia, he was raised by a priest and known in his youth as Solido Naso—a frank yet timid boy, not particularly bright, who dreamed of becoming a sailor. During a vacation in Sardinia in his late teens, he met Donatella Una, resulting in the birth of his daughter, Trish Una, though he never learned of her existence. A turning point came in 1986 when the priest uncovered the buried body of Diavolo’s mother, still alive with her mouth sewn shut. That same night, a fire ravaged the village, killing the priest and five others. Diavolo was presumed dead but instead journeyed to Egypt, where he unearthed six Stand arrows during an excavation. He sold five to Enya Geil and used the last to awaken his Stand, King Crimson. Returning to Italy, he founded Passione, which grew into a dominant criminal syndicate. He enforced a rigorous recruitment process involving Stand awakening and shrouded his identity in absolute secrecy, frequently issuing commands via intermediaries or digital channels. Diavolo exhibits profound paranoia and an obsessive drive to erase every trace of his past, convinced that destroying one’s history is necessary for growth. This compulsion leads him to eliminate anyone who might uncover his identity, even his own daughter. He operates through a dissociative identity disorder, sharing his body with an alternate personality named Vinegar Doppio. Doppio serves as Diavolo’s loyal underboss, handling public dealings and missions while remaining unaware of their shared existence. Diavolo communicates with Doppio through hallucinations in which objects transform into telephones and demonstrates a measure of care toward him, offering guidance and protection. His Stand, King Crimson, wields immense physical power and can erase time for up to ten seconds, during which only Diavolo remains conscious of the eliminated events. A sub-ability, Epitaph, allows him to foresee the next ten seconds with perfect accuracy. Together, these abilities render him nearly invincible in direct combat. Doppio can partially manifest King Crimson’s arms and use Epitaph with Diavolo’s consent. Diavolo’s downfall begins when he orders Team Bucciarati to escort his daughter Trish to him, planning her murder to protect his identity. After Bruno Bucciarati uncovers this scheme, he defects, sparking rebellion within Passione. Diavolo intervenes personally to eliminate threats, killing Leone Abbacchio and Narancia Ghirga. The conflict reaches its climax in Rome, where Diavolo confronts Jean Pierre Polnareff and secures a Stand Arrow that can unlock Requiem Stands. However, Giorno Giovanna pierces his own Stand with the Arrow, evolving it into Gold Experience Requiem. This new Stand negates Diavolo’s powers and condemns him to an infinite death loop, forcing him to experience death repeatedly without end. In broader media, such as the light novel *JORGE JOESTAR*, Diavolo is identified as a murder victim, adding further complexity to his narrative. The novel also attributes an additional unnamed Stand to Doppio, which enables communication through objects. The PlayStation 2 game adaptation depicts Diavolo as more capable in combat against Gold Experience Requiem, though he still meets his ultimate fate. Throughout his reign, Diavolo enforced a strict code of secrecy and loyalty within Passione, often employing extreme brutality to deter betrayal. His actions, which included trafficking drugs despite public charity fronts, eventually provoked widespread internal rebellion. His legacy concludes with Giorno Giovanna assuming control of Passione, ending Diavolo’s rule.
