Description
Roland is the son of Robin Hood and Marian. Following Marian's mysterious death, Robin raises him with the Merry Men. Roland first appears when Robin and his men occupy the Dark One's former castle. There, his declaration of "I believe" helps summon Peter Pan's shadow, enabling Baelfire's journey to Neverland. The shadow lunges for Roland, but Mulan intervenes, severing its arm and saving him.
When Pan's curse breaks, Roland returns to the Enchanted Forest. A flying monkey attacks him during the journey, but Regina shields him, transforming the creature into a toy she gives him. After Snow White casts another curse, Roland arrives in Storybrooke, his memories of the past year erased. In Storybrooke, Mr. Gold threatens Roland's life to force Robin into surrendering Regina's heart.
Marian later reappears, revealed to have survived, sparking tension between Robin and Regina. Roland instantly recognizes her, leading to an emotional reunion. However, Marian consumes ice cream poisoned with a freezing spell by Zelena, disguised as a counter server, and begins freezing. To survive, Marian must leave Storybrooke, as the magic only fades beyond the town line. Regina urges Robin to take Roland and depart with her. Once across the line, Marian recovers, and Robin joins them.
It is later revealed this "Marian" is Zelena in disguise. After this discovery, Regina and Robin administer a memory potion to Roland, erasing his memories of the false Marian to spare him pain.
Roland accompanies his father and others to Camelot. Returning to Storybrooke with no memories of their time there, he witnesses Robin's kidnapping by a fury seeking payment for Regina's magical debt. Robin is rescued but is later killed by Hades. Roland attends his father's funeral and then returns to the Enchanted Forest with the Merry Men through a portal Zelena creates.
Throughout his experiences, Roland shares a close bond with his father and the Merry Men. He displays innocence amidst ongoing conflicts and faces vulnerability to surrounding magical dangers. Magical curses halting time in the Enchanted Forest result in his inconsistent age, though he appears about five during most events.
