Description
Edward, a Shadow inhabiting the second floor of Lord Grandfather’s Wing, governs the Children’s Building as its warden following his Fusion—a complete merging with his Living Doll, Ed, through which he seized control of their shared form. His slicked-back gray hair and grayish-blue eyes complement a yellow-and-black floral suit fastened with a bowtie, crafting an air of calculated maturity belying his true years.

Obsessed with earning Lord Grandfather’s favor, Edward fixates on climbing the Shadows House hierarchy to claim a third-floor position. He manipulates the Debut trials to sabotage rivals like Kate, whose hidden soot powers and defiance threaten his ascent. Though allied with former classmates Aileen and Gerald under the guise of shared ambition, their partnerships hinge on utility, not trust.

Edward wields sound-manipulating soot powers, crafting perfect voice mimicries and disorienting vibrations to orchestrate events like the Debut’s controlled narratives and quell opposition. Yet his penchant for leaking secrets in moments of indulgence erodes third-floor superiors’ trust, branding him a liability despite his cunning.

As one of three survivors from his Debut cohort—later dubbed "The Greatest Generation"—Edward’s alliance with Aileen and Gerald solidified in the children’s wing. His prematurely aged features, whether a Fusion side effect or deliberate facade, reinforce his authority. Collaborations with enforcers like Barbara and Christopher see him upholding the House’s oppressive order, burying Fusion’s fatal toll on Living Dolls.

Edward’s ruthlessness surfaces in exploiting crises like the Phantom incident to purge competitors and coercing the Star Bearers to tighten his grip. Clashes with rebels like Maryrose and Kate, who jeopardize the House’s secrecy and his rise, define his escalating confrontations. Yet emotional recklessness often undermines his schemes, casting him as both architect and casualty of the Shadows House’s merciless structure.
