Kurane, known as Professor, stands 145 cm tall at 33 years old and serves as a central figure in the narrative. Her occupations include being a doctor, an inventor, and an Oni-slaying specialist. She researches machina technology and investigates ancient civilizations to uncover "the world's truths."

Professor engineered pivotal devices like Tokitsugu’s robotic body and the protagonist’s Demon Hand. This weapon-tool hybrid targets Oni body parts to stun them or demolish obstacles, while enabling traversal. Its combat reliability fluctuates—simultaneous use by multiple characters on one target may trigger failures.

Villagers distrusted her innovations, branding her a "Witch," though her medical expertise earned guarded trust in Mahoroba Village where she practices.

Seven years post-Awakening, she settled in Mahoroba. One year later, she discovered Tokitsugu dying amid demon attacks and saved him by transferring his consciousness into a mechanical body, demanding service in return. A decade after the Awakening, she found the unconscious protagonist outside Mahoroba and directed Tokitsugu to retrieve them. Upon the protagonist’s awakening, she identified herself and designated them "assistant #2" due to their amnesia, then used them for Demon Hand experiments.

Professor operates pragmatically, withholding knowledge from those "who do not need to know." When probed about aiding others, she clarified her sole purpose is annihilating Oni, leaving no room for human conflicts. Her character merges dedication with secrecy, prioritizing existential threats over interpersonal engagements.
