TV-Series
Description
Raika Koshiba holds the position of student council president at the protagonist's high school. His dignified appearance features short silver hair parted on the right, angled turquoise eyes, and rimless metal-framed glasses typically worn outside of cardfights. He consistently dresses in the school uniform: a navy blue suit lined with white, white button-down shirt, blue tie, gray slacks, and a badge on the left chest. He deliberately sheds his glasses during cardfights, a habit signaling moments of intense focus or dramatic flair.
Stoic and results-driven, Raika believes winning constitutes the sole purpose of competitive Vanguard, dismissing enjoyment irrespective of outcome as frivolity. This philosophy stems from a rational approach involving extensive pre-match research and calculated in-game decisions. He maintains a solitary disposition, displaying a distinct aversion to forming friendships. A significant aspect of his personality is his deep admiration for the professional fighter Michiru Hazama, whom he idolizes and aims to surpass. This idolization originated when Michiru, as a special guest at a tournament Raika attended, advised the younger fighter to find someone he desired to defeat as a source of strength, using himself as an example.
Before the main series events, Raika achieved the title of Champion in an Under-18 Vanguard tournament while already affiliated with the corporate youth team "Tirnanog Youth". During will+Dress Season 1, he continued this association.
His competitive journey escalated significantly in the Deluxe tournament (will+Dress D2). Participating as an invited fighter, he secured the championship. He achieved 1st Place in Group A during the preliminary rounds, defeating opponents including Kairo Hayami and likely Mondo Kirishima. He proceeded to defeat Himari Kanoachi in the quarterfinals and Megumi Okura in the semifinals. He clinched the championship by defeating Taizo Kiyokura in the finals.
Following his Deluxe tournament victory and passing the professional exam, Raika opted to remain with Tirnanog Youth for further development while completing high school. After graduation, he transitioned to the professional team, Tirnanog, demonstrating notable performance in both team and individual competitions. During periods of underperformance, he reportedly received taunting messages from an unspecified American professional player. His formidable status was recognized by his inclusion among the Three Rising Stars in Vanguard, alongside Senka Kanae and Suzune Rokuoin.
He received another invitation to participate in the next Deluxe tournament (Divinez DELUXE Arc). Competing in Group C, he experienced a loss against Kagetsu Yakumo but secured a victory over Akina Myodo. Despite being the previous champion, he approached this tournament as a personal challenge. His signature catchphrase is "Fall...Forever!".
