Description
Bolts is a wandering duelist and a representative of the Fire Civilization who serves as a rival to the protagonist. His full name is Fireball Bolts, though he is almost always referred to simply as Bolts. A punkish and energetic skateboarder, he travels across the country in search of strong opponents. His first-person pronoun is ore-chan, and his signature catchphrase is maji de BAD, reflecting his rebellious demeanor. Despite his rough and sometimes intimidating exterior, Bolts has a strong sense of honor and camaraderie, deeply valuing his friends and allies.

Bolts carries a boombox that he wears over his ears like oversized headphones, and this device is home to his partner creature, Dachikko Churis. Churis is a small, mouse-like being whose existence is kept secret from most people. Together, they traverse the world, often using a skateboard as Bolts's primary mode of transportation. Before meeting the main cast, Bolts had already proven his skill by defeating ninety-nine duelists and collecting their deck cases. He is shown to be a master of speed-based strategies, specializing in aggressive, fast-paced decks built around the Beat Jockey race of creatures.

In the story, Bolts is first encountered in a state of near-starvation and is saved by the protagonist. Grateful, he accepts a place to stay, which leads to their first duel and the beginning of a complex friendship. Bolts's journey is deeply tied to the world of creatures, and he becomes a Duel Master candidate for the Fire Civilization. This status leads him to form a Master Contract with his signature creature, Bad Brand, strengthening their bond and unlocking new forms and abilities. His most notable deck abilities include B.A.D. (Bad Action Dynamite), which allows him to summon creatures at a lower cost at the expense of destroying them at the end of the turn, and later G.G.G. (Gogogo Gangan Galaxy), an ability that activates when his hand size is small. As a King Master, he also wields the powerful creature Dynabolt and utilizes the Maji Bomber ability.

Bolts's key relationships are central to his development. He shares a fierce but friendly rivalry with the protagonist, often pushing each other to become stronger. He also has a complicated relationship with another key duelist, initially clashing with him due to differing ideals about justice and the treatment of creature spirits. Over time, their antagonism evolves into a grudging respect. Bolts is known for his charisma and ability to get along with both humans and creature spirits, often serving as a catalyst for group events and training.

Throughout the series, Bolts undergoes significant development. He starts as a lone wolf focused on proving his strength but gradually learns the importance of trust and friendship. A major arc sees him fall under the influence of a dark power, becoming obsessed with victory at any cost. His desire for strength is manipulated, causing him to transform into a demonic entity known as an oni. In this state, he becomes cruel and underhanded, using cheap tactics in duels. However, he is ultimately brought back to his senses by the pleas of his friends, reaffirming his core nature as someone who cares deeply for his companions. After overcoming these trials, he continues to grow as a duelist, even powering up his partner Churis and evolving his signature creatures, such as when Gaiaarl Kaiser grants him the power to transform Bad Brand into Gogogogaiaarl Brand.

Bolts is recognized as an exceptionally strong duelist, potentially on par with or even surpassing the protagonist at certain points, though he is often portrayed as less powerful than other major rivals. He is a master of Fire Civilization strategies, utilizing speed and overwhelming offense. His notable creatures include a series of Brand creatures, such as Bad Brand and Gogogo Brand, as well as the King Master creature Dynabolt. His abilities extend beyond simple card play; he is also a skilled skateboarder, which he uses not only for travel but also as a form of training to deepen his bond with his creature partners. Later in the series, he even masters the technique of Super GR, further showcasing his adaptability and dedication to becoming a stronger duelist.
