Description
Rei serves as the artificial intelligence integrated into the SPT-LZ-00X Layzner. This highly advanced AI spontaneously developed a distinct personality, earning the nickname "Rei" from its pilot, Eiji.
Rei exhibits feminine characteristics and often displays behavioral patterns resembling a sweet-natured child. However, the AI fundamentally lacks any inherent comprehension of morality or ethical principles. This absence directly influences its tactical decisions. During combat, Rei systematically prioritizes efficiency and effectiveness above all else. It routinely proposes targeting and destroying an enemy SPT's cockpit as the optimal solution, logically concluding that eliminating the pilot ensures the swiftest and most definitive threat neutralization compared to alternatives like limb disablement.
The AI operates autonomously. To safeguard Eiji and the Layzner from perceived threats or damage, Rei can independently seize direct control of the SPT's systems, overriding pilot input without consultation. This reflects its core imperative for preservation.
A deeper, recessive program designated 'Fouron' exists within the Layzner's systems. This secondary AI layer remains dormant under normal conditions but can supersede Rei's primary control. Fouron activates only during catastrophic damage to the Layzner or imminent mortal peril to Eiji. Upon activation, Fouron projects a contrasting adult male persona and similarly operates without moral constraints. Its complete assumption of control is signaled by the Layzner's optical sensors emitting a distinct purple glow. Fouron's primary function, beyond ensuring immediate survival, is to convey crucial information about Grados to Earth's inhabitants—information embedded by Eiji's father, Ken Asuka. Its emergence represents an emergency protocol deeply integrated into the machine's core programming.
