Description
Glyph Mercer serves as the Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Fairies, acting as the trusted right-hand man to Vice-Minister Marco Bellwood. In this official capacity, he oversees investigations concerning artificial fairies and the dangerous Black Fairy Tomes. Beyond his public duties, Glyph is secretly a member of the Eins Order, a religious cult. He is a descendant of Jay B. Mercer, the author of the Blue Fairy Tome, a legacy that connects him deeply to the world's foundational fairy lore.

In terms of personality, Glyph initially presents a professional and composed demeanor, befitting his governmental position. However, this facade conceals a ruthless and fanatical nature. His unwavering loyalty to Marco Bellwood and the Eins Order's cause drives him to commit brutal acts without hesitation, revealing a character willing to sacrifice anyone, including his superior, to achieve his ultimate goals. He appears calm and calculating in battle, though his ambition to rule over the survivors of the Divine Beast's rampage suggests a deep-seated desire for power and control in what he believes will be a new world order.

Glyph's primary motivation is the fulfillment of the Eins Order's plan, which centers on collecting the Black Fairy Tomes and resurrecting a devastating entity known as the Divine Beast. His actions throughout the story are all in service of this objective. He believes that after the Divine Beast purges the land, he will be the one to lead the remaining people, revealing a messianic ambition to become a king in the aftermath of destruction.

Within the story's narrative, Glyph acts as a significant antagonist and a direct operative of the main conspiracy. His role is to execute the critical, often violent, tasks necessary for the Eins Order's plan. He is personally responsible for the assassination of Prime Minister Golbarn Helwise and leads the attack on Duke Ray Dawn's convoy, ultimately capturing the Duke so that his fairy-possessed organ could be extracted to power the Divine Beast. He serves as a formidable obstacle for the protagonists, Free Underbar and Marlya Noel, culminating in a direct confrontation at the Eins Order's base.

Key relationships define Glyph's position and actions. His most important relationship is with Marco Bellwood, whom he serves as deputy. While he appears loyal, Glyph ultimately reveals a pragmatic and self-serving side, explaining that Marco sacrificed himself to the Divine Beast and that he, Glyph, will now take the lead. He is a direct adversary to Free Underbar and Wolfran Row, engaging them in a deadly final battle. Glyph also utilizes the fairy named Norca and the fairy weapon Painsealer, which originally belonged to Ewen Breeze of the Seven Knights, to commit his murder of the Prime Minister.

Glyph Mercer does not undergo a significant positive change or redemption. His development is a deepening of his antagonistic role, as his secret affiliations and ruthless ambitions are gradually revealed. He begins as a seemingly competent bureaucrat and is later exposed as a high-ranking cultist and murderer. His arc concludes with his ambition being cut short; he is killed in combat by Free Underbar and Wolfran Row after they see through his plan to survive the Divine Beast's destruction.

As a combatant, Glyph is a capable and dangerous fighter. He wields the Painsealer, a powerful prosthetic arm-type fairy weapon that greatly enhances his physical abilities and allows him to channel his fairy's power. He is contracted to a fairy named Norca, which he uses in tandem with Painsealer to launch devastating attacks. His abilities are formidable enough to challenge and overwhelm several opponents, requiring the combined efforts of Free Underbar and Wolfran Row to finally defeat him.
