OVA
Description
Mikazuchi acts as a primary antagonist. He is the older brother of Oto Tachibana and one of the Sky Warriors under Tsukuyomi's command, defined by a coldhearted and relentless pursuit of power and humanity's destruction. Originally chosen as the intended pilot for the powerful mecha Susanoo, he arrived too late to claim it, as Yamato Takeru had already discovered and activated the machine. Following this failure, Mikazuchi became possessed by the Crimson Essence, a fragment of dark energy linked to the eight-headed dragon Yamata no Orochi.
Subsequently, Mikazuchi pilots the Sky Guardian Gaiou, a highly powerful mecha capable of draining energy from foes and wielding a red trident. Though Tsukuyomi promised Gaiou to Mikazuchi upon successfully killing Yamato Takeru, Mikazuchi seized control of the mecha regardless after failing this objective. This act severed his allegiance to Tsukuyomi, branding him a traitor among the Sky Warriors. His objectives shifted to destroying Yamato Takeru, humanity, and anyone obstructing his path, driven by possession and personal ambition. He wields a distinctive golden sword sheathed behind his back.
In the sequel OVA, set three years later, Mikazuchi returns piloting a different mecha, Shuranoo, to attack Yakumo Village during a renewed threat. He specifically targets the village, forcing Yamato Takeru to reactivate the sealed Susanoo for defense. Mikazuchi kidnaps Oto Tachibana, taking her to Tsukuyomi, who reveals a parasitic connection to her mother's body and absorbs Oto. During the confrontation, Mikazuchi mercilessly attacks Susanoo when Yamato Takeru hesitates to fight, critically damaging the mecha.
Ultimately, Mikazuchi becomes possessed by Tsukuyomi, merging with the entity. When Yamato Takeru and Oto attempt a sacrificial plunge into the sun to destroy Tsukuyomi, Mikazuchi briefly regains autonomy. He intervenes, freeing Oto and Yamato Takeru, then pilots Susanoo himself to complete the trajectory into the sun. This act destroys both Susanoo and Tsukuyomi, sacrificing himself. Before his demise, Mikazuchi expresses approval of Yamato Takeru and Oto's relationship, urging them to live fully.
