Sumire, originally named Sumire Sugita, lived over 250 years ago as a businesswoman before the Great Cataclysm. Growing disillusioned with humanity's blind adherence to trends and institutions, she developed a cynical, misanthropic worldview. This led her to voluntarily join the Evangelist's plan to destroy the world, believing humanity lacked true free will and deserved annihilation. Following the Great Cataclysm's failure, Sumire infiltrated the Holy Sol Temple, becoming the head sister at St. Raffles Convent. There, she posed as a compassionate caretaker for children, including Hibana, Iris, and Rekka Hoshimiya, while secretly using the orphanage to conduct experiments. Her goal was to engineer Third Generation pyrokinetics and doppelgängers, creating the Eight Pillars for the Evangelist's plans. Sumire faked her death during a Spontaneous Human Combustion incident that destroyed St. Raffles Convent, an event she orchestrated. This tragedy killed most of the sisters and profoundly affected Hibana, who believed Sumire perished. In reality, Sumire went into hiding for a decade, continuing her work for the Evangelist as the Seventh Pillar. Her abilities include being a powerful Third Generation pyrokinetic. She generates vibrations through muscle contractions, converting body heat into kinetic energy to create destructive shockwaves and earthquakes. Combined with her Adolla Burst, these vibrations can level structures and destabilize entire regions like Tokyo. She possesses extensive knowledge in botany, agronomy, and entomology, alongside apparent agelessness due to her prolonged lifespan. Sumire reemerged during an investigation of St. Raffles' ruins, revealing herself to Hibana, Karim, and Huo Yan Li. She confessed to creating the Eight Pillars, including experiments that led to Iris being Amaterasu's doppelgänger. She attacked the group, incapacitating Li and destroying Karim's equipment. An intervention by the Woman in Black via an Adolla Link prevented her from killing them, allowing their escape. Later, she encountered Sho within the White-Clad's base, sensing changes in him but dismissing his departure due to the collective connection of the Eight Pillars through Adolla. She initiated massive earthquakes to trigger the emergence of Stone Pillars, advancing the Second Cataclysm. During the final confrontation, she participated in restarting the Great Cataclysm after all Pillars were gathered. When Company 8 resisted despair, she appeared in the Adolla realm, lamenting their hope while reaffirming her commitment to the Evangelist's mission. Her name, "スミレ" (violet), reflects the floral theme at the convent, while the kanji "炭隷" (charcoal slave) underscores her hidden role as a destructive force.
