ONA
Description
Belphegor is the seventh-born of the seven demon brothers and serves as the Avatar of Sloth in the Devildom. He is the younger twin brother of Beelzebub, and the two share a remarkably close bond, often acting in sync with one another. Born on March 11, his symbolic animal is the cow. In terms of appearance, Belphegor has short, dark hair that fades to lighter tips and distinctive gradient eyes that blend indigo and raspberry pink, a trait he shares with his twin.

At first glance, Belphegor embodies his sin of sloth completely. He is almost always seen napping or attempting to sleep, valuing rest above most other activities and frequently being described as sleepy or lacking energy. However, this lazy exterior masks a sharp, cunning, and surprisingly efficient personality. He is regarded as the cheekiest and most manipulative of the brothers, possessing a natural talent for acting and deceiving others to get what he wants. Despite his lethargic demeanor, he is also sensible and proactive when a situation genuinely calls for action, and he manages to maintain excellent grades at the Royal Academy of Diavolo, often sleeping through classes yet still performing well academically. Belphegor is not particularly sociable and generally keeps to himself, but he makes a significant exception for the main character (MC), with whom he enjoys cuddling and sharing naps.

Belphegor’s personal history is central to his character and motivations. Originally an angel in the Celestial Realm alongside his brothers and his beloved younger sister, Lilith, he had a great fondness for the human world and would often sneak there to visit. Following the Great Celestial War, which resulted in the brothers falling from grace to become demons, Lilith was mortally wounded. For millennia, Belphegor harbored a deep and bitter hatred for humanity, believing humans were the cause of his sister’s death. This resentment festered for years until Diavolo, the ruler of the Devildom, proposed a student exchange program with the human world. Belphegor vehemently opposed the plan. When he pleaded with his older brother Lucifer to cancel it, citing Lilith’s memory, and Lucifer refused, Belphegor attacked him in a rage. As a result, Lucifer imprisoned Belphegor in the attic of the House of Lamentation for an extended period to prevent him from acting on his destructive impulses.

His role in the main story begins while he is still imprisoned. He secretly contacts the main character, lying and claiming to be a human prisoner in need of rescue. Belphegor manipulates MC into forming pacts with his other six brothers, explaining that their collective consent would break the magical seal on the attic door. Upon his eventual release, his long-suppressed hatred and rage are unleashed. He reveals his sadistic side, expressing joy at seeing his brothers, particularly Lucifer, in distress. Most notably, in a pivotal event, he murders the main character, showing a delight in their pain and reaffirming his disdain for humanity. This act stands as a critical turning point and a major source of conflict within the narrative.

Key relationships are fundamental to his character development. The most important is with his twin, Beelzebub. The two are nearly inseparable; Belphegor often takes care of Beelzebub, and Beelzebub is fiercely protective of him. Belphegor’s hatred and subsequent imprisonment caused Beelzebub great anguish. His relationship with Lucifer is complex and fraught with tension. Before the incident, Belphegor respected Lucifer more than any of his other brothers, but his imprisonment transformed that respect into profound rebellion and bitterness. He forms an anti-Lucifer alliance with another brother, Satan, bonding over their shared frustrations. His entire world view, however, is ultimately reshaped by the main character. After learning that MC is a direct descendant of his sister Lilith, who survived and thrived as a human, his centuries of hatred begin to dissolve. Realizing his mistake, he willingly offers MC a pact, giving up his own freedom as an act of atonement for killing them.

Over the course of the story, Belphegor undergoes significant development. He transitions from a duplicitous, hate-filled prisoner to a remorseful individual capable of affection. His initial rebelliousness and desire to destroy humanity give way to a more mellow and accepting nature. While he remains lazy and manipulative, he learns to direct these traits in less destructive ways. He becomes genuinely attached to MC, displaying a possessive and devoted side that has been characterized as yandere in official material. He expresses regret for his past actions, accepting that MC may never fully forgive him. His future dream is a simple one: to travel around the world with Beelzebub and MC, the two people most important to him.

Notable abilities include his power of information absorption, allowing him to learn the content of books through a form of osmosis without actively reading them. He is also an exceptionally skilled liar and manipulator, capable of putting on convincing acts to fool even those close to him. Despite his laziness, he possesses a sharp intellect that enables him to solve problems efficiently. Conversely, he has a noted lack of artistic skill, with his drawings being nearly incomprehensible to others, a fact he remains mostly unaware of.
