Description
Christopher “Chris” Chiaki, a half-Japanese, half-Caucasian man in his mid-twenties, repeatedly stumbles through college entrance exams while devoting himself to Kendo practice and tending his family’s shrine. His life fractures when his spirit is violently ripped from his body and thrust into Byston Well, a parallel realm of ceaseless conflict. Stranded between worlds, he navigates dual realities: one as a warrior entangled in ancient battles, the other as a disconnected student managing mundane obligations like a high school reunion pool party.

In Byston Well, Chris emerges as Garzey’s Wing, a prophesied holy warrior sprouting luminous wings from his ankles that enable flight and preternatural agility. Armed with a salvaged blade of questionable quality and untested in combat or leadership, he survives through raw instinct, honing his skills amid chaos. His divided selves share a telepathic link via an eight-bell necklace, their connection visceral—every injury and surge of fatigue resonates across both existences. Real-world rituals, from Chi exercises to Kendo drills, amplify his prowess in Byston Well, forging a symbiotic loop where each realm sharpens the other.

His internal clash with mixed heritage mirrors external strife. He grapples with his identity through echoes of Japanese mythology, particularly the legend of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, symbolized by a white bird tied to his family’s shrine. Meanwhile, in Byston Well, he mobilizes the enslaved Metomeus tribe against the Ashigaba empire, leveraging War Beasts and guerrilla warfare. Allies like the pragmatic priestess Hassan and the shrewd fairy Falan Fa aid his campaigns, though their alliances remain transactional, anchored in survival rather than camaraderie.

The Metomeus’ liberation concludes his crusade, yet Chris’s spirit remains shackled to Byston Well. His physical counterpart retains phantom echoes of Garzey’s Wing’s power, a lingering testament to fractured duality. The narrative closes with his cultural reconciliation suspended and the ramifications of his split existence unresolved—a warrior eternally straddling worlds, his future as uncertain as the myths that haunt him.
