Description
Salt, known as Apex in some localizations, is the fourth member of Team Freedom. His childhood involved being accidentally abandoned by his father, Jasper, during an escape from a Rapterrix. Following this, the Alpha Shadow Zoid raised him, becoming his partner and primary guardian. This upbringing limited his exposure to typical human experiences, contributing to social inexperience.
Salt exhibits a fiercely competitive nature, constantly striving to prove himself the world's strongest Zoid pilot. This drive initially led him to dismiss friendships as unnecessary. However, his perspective shifted after developing a rivalry with Arashi, which evolved into mutual respect and camaraderie. He approaches tasks with intense, single-minded focus regardless of consequences, possesses a notable lack of directional sense, and demonstrates consistent honesty. He frequently uses the catchphrase "Ciao" in the Japanese version.
As a pilot, Salt demonstrates exceptional skill. He mastered the Wild Blast technique upon his introduction and uniquely utilizes the "Second Gear" ability to enhance his Alpha Shadow's speed and combat effectiveness. This combination enables high-velocity maneuvers and devastating area-of-effect attacks, making him one of Team Freedom's most formidable fighters. The Alpha Shadow, a Hunter Wolf-type Zoid, functions as both his combat partner and surrogate family.
His relationships within Team Freedom develop significantly:
- His initial rivalry with Arashi transforms into a strong bond built on mutual respect.
- He frequently engages in arguments with Bastion, who was initially wary but eventually accepted him as a teammate.
- He holds deep respect for Quade, having met him parallel to Arashi in the past.
- He appreciates Analog's cooking, though his comments urging Analog to eat more for strength cause annoyance.
A pivotal moment in Salt's storyline sees him presumed dead by his teammates after a battle against Numb-Lock. While his survival is confirmed in a post-credits sequence in the original version, his teammates remain unaware. His hometown is Tonzo, and his parents are Jasper (Sugar) and Jenny (Granyu) in Japanese nomenclature.
