Description
Rimuru Tempest originated as Satoru Mikami, a 37-year-old Japanese salaryman who perished after being stabbed while protecting a colleague. Upon death, Satoru reincarnated within a fantasy world's sealed cave as a slime monster. This initial form measured roughly 40 cm in diameter, manifesting as a translucent blue sphere capable of amorphous movement. During early confinement, the slime encountered Veldora, a storm dragon imprisoned for 300 years. The two formed a bond and exchanged names—Satoru adopted the name Rimuru Tempest, while Veldora took the surname Tempest. Rimuru subsequently consumed Veldora's magical seal to analyze and ultimately break it, storing the dragon within an internal dimension.
After acquiring the Extra Skill Magic Sense from Veldora, Rimuru escaped the cave. Exploration brought encounters with threatened goblin villages and direwolf packs. Following intervention in their conflicts, Rimuru bestowed names upon key figures such as Rigurd, Ranga, and Gobta. This act triggered evolutionary transformations in these monsters due to the inherent power of naming, establishing Rimuru's leadership over the newly formed Jura Tempest Federation. Rimuru's physical form evolved through multiple stages: initial human mimicry resembled a child aged six or seven after absorbing the deceased otherworlder Shizue Izawa. Subsequent evolutions—driven by consuming powerful entities like the Orc Disaster—advanced Rimuru's humanoid appearance to that of a nine-year-old, then a twelve or thirteen-year-old after ascending to True Demon Lord status. The Ultimate Slime evolution resulted in an androgynous adolescent form approximately 155-160 cm tall, characterized by silver-blue hair, golden eyes, and typically adorned in black-and-white attire featuring draconic or ceremonial elements.
Rimuru's core personality blended Satoru's human memories with monster instincts. The character consistently demonstrated optimism, diplomatic empathy, and a proactive drive to build a peaceful society. Leadership emphasized forgiveness, evident in the integration of former enemies like orcs into Tempest. However, underlying ruthlessness surfaced when allies faced threats, exemplified by psychologically torturing Clayman or massacring the Falmuth army to resurrect slain subordinates. A calculated, strategic mind operated beneath a cheerful exterior, frequently employing manipulation or misinformation to protect Tempest's interests. Rimuru exhibited gender neutrality, confirmed by creator Fuse as neither male nor female. While early adaptations used male pronouns due to translation choices, Rimuru lacked biological sex characteristics and accepted varied perceptions, including subordinates designing feminine clothing without objection.
Abilities centered on the Unique Skill Predator, enabling absorption and replication of traits from consumed entities. This skill evolved into Gluttony and later Beelzebuth, granting destructive void manipulation. Supporting skills included Great Sage—an analytical AI that advanced into Raphael and Ciel—providing cognitive enhancement, skill synthesis, and reality-warping capabilities via Ultimate Skills like Uriel and Azathoth. Naming bestowed evolutionary power on monsters, creating loyal elites such as the Kijin. Post-Demon-Lord ascension granted Rimuru immortality, energy absorption, and mass resurrection abilities. Combat integrated versatile magic, spatial manipulation, and skills appropriated from allies or foes.
Key developments involved establishing Tempest as a haven for monsters and forging alliances with human nations. Conflicts such as the Orc Lord invasion and Walpurgis Demon Lord gatherings tested Rimuru's ideals, culminating in ascension to True Demon Lord status to protect allies. Later evolution into a True Dragon and Ultimate Slime expanded multiversal influence, positioning Rimuru among the world's most formidable entities. The core objective remained creating a convenient, tolerant society reflecting Satoru's earthly desires.
