Description
Shizu, originally named Shizue Izawa, suffered severe injuries as an eight-year-old Japanese girl during the World War II Tokyo firebombings. Leon Cromwell, the Demon Lord who forcibly summoned her to another world while attempting to summon Chloe Aubert, bound the flame spirit Ifrit to her body to save her life from fatal burns and unstable magicules. This possession stabilized her condition but allowed Ifrit to periodically seize control, leading Shizu to view her powers as a curse.
After Leon abandoned his castle during an attack by the hero Chronoa, Shizu fought the hero but was defeated. The hero, later revealed as Hinata Sakaguchi controlling Chronoa's body, took Shizu under her wing, providing an Anti-Magic Mask to suppress Ifrit's influence. This marked Shizu's new identity as the adventurer and hero known as the "Conqueror of Flames." She achieved A+ rank in the Free Guild and co-founded its predecessor, the Adventurer Cooperation Union, helping establish its ranking system to reduce mission casualties.
Shizu became a strict but caring homeroom teacher for Otherworlder children at Freedom Academy, earning the nickname "The Demonic Head Instructor." Her students included Yuuki Kagurazaka and Hinata Sakaguchi, whom she treated as a daughter figure. As she aged and her control over Ifrit weakened, she sought Leon for a method to save her five current students from the deadly magicule overload plaguing summoned children. During this journey, Ifrit fully possessed her in the Great Forest of Jura. She separated herself from the spirit to die human, reverting to a frail, elderly form. Rimuru Tempest defeated Ifrit, and Shizu's final request was for Rimuru to consume her remains, save the children, and make Leon acknowledge her existence. This act granted Rimuru a human form resembling a younger Shizu.
Her soul persisted within Rimuru, manifesting later during Hinata's fight with Rimuru to warn her about Yuuki. She also facilitated closure for Hinata and Chloe in Rimuru's subconscious during a confrontation with Granbell. In "The Slime Diaries," Shizu appears as a spectral figure observing festivals and daily life in Tempest, unable to interact but watching with wry amusement events like Rimuru wearing a bunny suit resembling her. The mobile game "ISEKAI Memories" features alternative versions of her character, such as "Shizu, the Dream Bride," in special event scenarios.
