His career progressed from private through the ranks of corporal, sergeant, and ultimately captain. Early narratives centered on humorous military incidents, later evolving into tales of campaigns against the "pigs army" on the "continent," reflecting contemporary geopolitical contexts. After wartime suspension, the character reappeared in post-war iterations significantly altering his trajectory; Norakuro was reimagined in civilian roles, including occupations like sumo wrestler and botanist. Beyond narrative media, he served as the official mascot for the Japan Self-Defense Forces' Physical Training School (Tai-Iku Gakko) during the 1980s and early 1990s. Pre-war animated shorts featured his military exploits in titles like "Private 2nd Class Norakuro: The Training" (1933), "Corporal Nora-Kuro" (1934), "Private 1st Class Nora-Kuro" (1935), and "Norakuro The Sergeant: The Air Ride" (c.1939).
