Description
Duke Barthélemy Rambert, born into the noble French Rambert family, traces his lineage through grandfather Aaron, grandmother Maria, father Mitchell, mother Rachael, younger brother Jan, and younger sister Julia. Once hailed as France's strongest knight, a decisive defeat by the Japanese adventurer Eiji Shinjo shattered his reputation and ignited a fierce desire for vengeance.

Driven by this loss, he entered the inaugural Battle Arena Toshinden tournament hosted by the Secret Society, seeking a rematch with Eiji. Defeat came again, leading to his temporary retirement from combat, burdened by shame. His personal life later intertwined with Uranus, a high-ranking Secret Society member, until she betrayed him to seize leadership within the organization. Learning of her treachery, he entered the second Toshinden tournament focused on confronting her. He formed a temporary alliance with Eiji during the event but abandoned the tournament upon discovering Uranus had been killed by Eiji’s brother, Sho. Despite her betrayal, he privately mourned her death, reflecting unresolved feelings.

His motivations broadened in the third tournament when targeted by the Soshiki, historical enemies of the Rambert family dating back to the Viking Age. He fought to protect his family's legacy, confronting and defeating Balga, a rival knight descended from Norse invaders whose lineage held a generational feud against the Rambert clan. Following Eiji's defeat of the Soshiki leader, Abel, the Duke permanently retired from competitive fighting. He dedicated himself to governing his family’s lands in France and upholding their honor as a nobleman.

Years later, during the fourth tournament, he assumed the role of mentor, training and guiding his English apprentice, Lancelot Lakeknight, into the competition. Prior to his estrangement from Uranus, they had a daughter named Puella Marionette.

Physically, he stands 190 cm tall, weighs 75 kg, and possesses blood type A. His primary weapon is the formidable two-handed sword "Dernier Ventcour," exceeding legendary weapons in sharpness and power. His fighting style emphasizes spatial control and reach, employing graceful yet powerful maneuvers. He executes signature techniques like "Southern Cross" (a charging somersault slash), "Helm Crush" (a high-damage overhead strike), "Big Dipper" (a jumping uppercut), "Coffin" (multiple rapid stabs), and "Hard Rose" (a rushing slash that crumples opponents). When critically injured, he employs the desperation move "The End," a charged cross-slash. His Overdrive technique, "Grand Cross," manifests as a green energy cross upon impact.

Beyond combat, he maintains aristocratic habits including afternoon tea, appreciates Krug champagne, engages in fox hunting, and practices horse breeding. He exhibits discomfort around women, stemming from past encounters with gold diggers and catfishers.

Within the non-game animated continuity, he appears briefly as part of a coalition of fighters assaulting the Organization’s base to support Eiji, Kayin, and Gaia.
