Description
Bell Cranel is a 14-year-old human adventurer and captain of the Hestia Familia. Orphaned after his parents—members of the Zeus and Hera Familias—died, his adoptive grandfather raised him in a rural village; this grandfather was later revealed as the god Zeus. Following Zeus's presumed death, Bell journeyed to Orario to become an adventurer, initially motivated by Zeus's advice that adventurers attract women and could build harems. After rejections from multiple Familias, he joined the newly formed Hestia Familia as its sole member.

Physically, Bell possesses distinctive white hair and red eyes, often compared to a rabbit. He wears lightweight armor, a brown coat featuring a black chest patch, a black shirt, black pants, and brown boots. His personality blends humility, kindness, and bravery with pronounced shyness, especially around women. Early naivety led to him being swindled multiple times, though he forgave perpetrators easily, demonstrated with allies like Naaza and Liliruca Arde (Lili). A defining moment occurred when swordswoman Ais Wallenstein saved him from a Minotaur; he developed intense admiration for her, fueling his determination to grow stronger. This resolve helped him overcome his resulting fear of Minotaurs, defeating one while still Level 1.

Bell's rapid growth stems primarily from his unique skill Liaris Freese, which accelerates his development based on the intensity of his feelings, particularly for Ais. This skill also grants immunity to charm effects. Upon reaching Level 2, he acquired the skill Argonaut, enabling him to charge attacks with escalating power; full charges take four minutes (reduced from three after Level 4) and inflict recoil damage proportional to charge time. By Level 4, he mastered "dual-charging," allowing simultaneous charges for techniques like Argo Vesta—a combined charged Firebolt and Hestia Knife strike. His other abilities include the magic Firebolt (learned via a grimoire), and Development Abilities: Luck (enhancing resource finds and evasion), Abnormal Resistance (nullifying poisons), and Escape (increasing fleeing speed). Statistically, Bell's physical prowess often exceeds his level due to consistently achieving high ranks (SS/SSS) before leveling up. As a new Level 4, his agility rivaled top-tier Level 4 adventurers, and as a Level 5, his strength matched low-Level 6 opponents despite stat disparities.

Key conflicts shaped his development. His encounter with the intelligent monsters known as Xenos, like Wiene, triggered moral conflict over killing monsters, leading him to adopt a "hypocrite" philosophy: continuing to fight while protecting those worthy of salvation. This stance made him a pariah in Orario but earned loyalty from the Xenos. After losing to the minotaur Asterius and reaching Level 4, Bell grew calmer and more strategic, focusing on creating coexistence between humans and Xenos and defeating Asterius. He later rejected Syr Flover's confession (unaware she was the goddess Freya), triggering Freya's retaliation; this experience made him cautious about rejecting others' affections. His resilience was tested during the War Game against Freya Familia, where he achieved Level 5.

Romantically, Bell remains singularly devoted to Ais despite attracting attention from others, including Hestia, Lili, Ryū Lion, Eina Tulle, Haruhime, and Freya. He attributes his obliviousness to their feelings to low self-esteem, fearing presumption or embarrassment. His preference leans toward blonde, long-haired elves, aligning with his admiration for Ais.

Across all media, Bell evolves from a novice seeking romance into a principled hero prioritizing justice and protection. His aliases reflect this growth: "Little Rookie" (Level 2), "Rabbit Foot" (Level 4), and "Regulus Arne" (Level 5). By the series' current arc, he balances combat pragmatism with idealism, embodying his grandfather's definition of heroism: risking oneself for others regardless of personal cost.
