Description
Masamune Shichigahama, a third-year Sōshūkan High student, captains the boys’ rhythmic gymnastics team with fiery dedication. His gymnastics journey ignited upon witnessing coach Shūsaku Shida execute a park-practiced backflip, spurring him to enlist childhood friends Keisuke Tsukidate and Nagayoshi Onagawa in founding the club. Hailing from Miyagi Prefecture, his family oversees a century-old sasa kamaboko shop crafting bamboo-leaf-wrapped fish cakes, a local delicacy.

As captain, he fuels the team’s spirit through fervent encouragement and relentless drive, prioritizing motivational zeal over technical guidance—a style occasionally leaving movement explanations abstract. His dynamic rivalry with Hakumei University Affiliated High’s captain, Toru Takase, sparks spirited exchanges whenever their paths cross.

Sporting short red hair with a maroon undercut and piercing yellow eyes, he frequently dons an unzipped tracksuit beyond practice hours. His expertise shines in apparatus-free routines blending athleticism with expressive artistry. He fiercely defends the team’s honor, clashing sharply when Onagawa downplays their potential.

The name “Masamune” (government + religion) mirrors his unifying leadership, while “Shichigahama” (seven beaches) nods to his coastal heritage. Across the series and film, his resolve anchors the team’s growth, channeling camaraderie and shared hunger to reach the Inter-High tournament. A middle school encounter with Shida’s gravity-defying performance crystallized his gymnastics path, forging him into the club’s charismatic, tenacious heart.
