Misaki Kureha is a Japanese individual orphaned at a young age after her father perished in a Ghoul assault at the Watcher's Nest and her mother died under mysterious circumstances during her early childhood. She lived with extended family until turning eighteen, then enlisted in the military due to limited employment prospects. Despite notable clumsiness and inexperience, Misaki was chosen for the elite Seraphim cadet program. After completing intense training, she was stationed at the Watcher's Nest alongside fellow cadets Luxandra Frail, Suzanne Bluestein, and Kiri Marialate. Ordinarily, Misaki displays a clumsy but cheerful demeanor that uplifts her comrades. In moments of crisis or extreme duress, however, latent abilities surface, revealing unexpected skill and resolve. It is later revealed that Misaki is the result of advanced genetic experimentation to create a hybrid of Ghoul and human. This heritage grants her unique powers, including the ability to transform into a Ghoul-like form during heightened emotional states, allowing her to fight Ghouls as an equal or superior. This transformation involves significant physical changes and often destroys her armor. Her hybrid nature also confers nearly godlike time manipulation abilities, which develop further over time. After the events at the Watcher's Nest, Misaki participates in time travel missions to various periods in Earth's history to counter Ghoul incursions. During these operations, she often appears as a translucent apparition in a yellow dress, suggesting a non-corporeal or altered state. She interacts with teammates across different timelines, attempting to change past events to prevent tragedies such as the deaths of comrades. These efforts include interventions in feudal Japan and pre-World War II events, where she influences historical outcomes while battling Ghoul manifestations. Driven by a desire to create a world without sadness, Misaki eventually accepts that a perfect timeline without loss is unattainable. In one significant timeline, she sacrifices herself to ensure her teammates' survival, sending them back to their correct universe and erasing her own existence from that reality. As a result, only Lyar Von Ertiana remembers her. However, in a distant finale set years later, Misaki reappears, stating that she had been waiting, and reunites with Lyar, suggesting a restoration of her presence or return from erasure. Throughout her experiences, Misaki retains a preference for noodle dishes like udon. She has blue hair and blue or green eyes, and is often seen in military uniforms or casual attire suited to her situation.
