TV-Series
Description
Kenta Nakanowatari is a childhood friend of Kiyo and Sumire from their hometown in Aomori Prefecture. After attending high school in Aomori, he moved to Kyoto following a baseball-related injury. In Kyoto, he works as an apprentice chef and holds a part-time job at a restaurant near the ochaya district.
He is known for his intelligence, diligence, and ability to balance work with studies. Kenta has deep knowledge of the local geisha district's customs and traditions, which he shares willingly to assist Kiyo as she adjusts to the unfamiliar environment. Though generally serious and studious, he also displays a playful and mischievous streak, taking pleasure in pranks and humor.
His role is largely supportive, often helping Kiyo with her cooking duties at the maiko house. Over time, he develops romantic feelings for her, though he remains unsure whether she returns them. He continues to encourage and support her in her endeavors.
Analyses indicate a conscientious and empathetic helper with strong people skills and a desire to serve others. He is naturally curious and values knowledge, though he can at times seem socially awkward or emotionally reserved.
A flashback to his childhood in Aomori shows him and Sumire engaged in a vigorous shoveling contest that left them both exhausted, in contrast to Kiyo’s steady and methodical approach. This early dynamic echoes his later supportive nature in Kyoto.
