Description
Azalie grew up in an orphanage with her distant relative Leticia and foster brother Krylancelo (later Orphen), acting as a maternal figure for young Krylancelo. Around age 11, she, Leticia, and Krylancelo were taken to the Tower of Fang, joining the elite Childman Classroom under master sorcerer Childman Powderfield. Azalie became the most powerful of the seven students, frequently accompanying Childman on special missions concerning the Nornir's legacies.
Her personality blended sharp intellect with fierce competitiveness and a provocative streak, often sparking explosive clashes, especially with Leticia. Azalie harbored romantic feelings for Childman; his rejection profoundly affected her, deepening her obsession with knowledge and power. This obsession led her to secretly experiment with forbidden magic, culminating in testing the ancient Sword of Baldanders on herself. The spell backfired, transforming her into the monstrous dragon Bloody August. The Tower of Fang pronounced her dead, held a funeral with an empty casket, and initiated a hunt to destroy the creature, believing Azalie's consciousness was lost.
Missing for five years, Azalie resurfaced near the Everlasting household in Totokanta City, repeatedly attacking to reclaim the Sword of Baldanders. Childman organized a hunting party, including Orphen, to eliminate the dragon. During the battle, Azalie used white magic to swap bodies with Childman, revealing she orchestrated the hunt. Confronted by Orphen, she justified her actions as self-defense against the Tower's persecution. Though Orphen offered to restore her using the sword, she chose to return to her human body, after which he declared he never wanted to see her again.
Despite this, Azalie tracked Orphen's journey through astral projection. Witnessing events in Alenhatam involving a Nornir relic called a Killing Doll, she activated a second doll, gaining knowledge of dragon sanctuaries and ruins. Using this information, she recovered the lost Sword of Baldanders and transformed the Killing Doll into a devoted replica of 15-year-old Krylancelo. She later sent this replica to warn Orphen about unrest within the Tower and the movements of the rival Whurl Classroom.
When the Whurl Class ambushed Leticia, Azalie intervened to save her, forcing a confrontation with Orphen. They collaborated against Whurl Karlen; after Orphen defeated him, Azalie used white magic to erase memories of her survival from Whurl and his students. Discovering Orphen hid the real World Book, she accepted a fake copy (Cleao's diary) and instructed him to find her in Kimrak if he sought her again. Later, while tracking Orphen near the Kamisunda Theater, she hired dwarves Vulcan and Dortin for her journey to Kimrak and eliminated over 60 dog monsters threatening Orphen's group.
Azalie's abilities centered on mastery of both black and white magic, specializing in illusions, soul-swaps, and astral projection for mental and spiritual attacks. These powers facilitated her intricate manipulations and survival strategies throughout her conflicts.
