Description
John H. Watson, a medical student at the University of London, shared a close friendship with his classmate Friday, often playing chess and consistently losing. Together, they engaged in illegal secret research on corpse reanimation technology, defying legal prohibitions. Following Friday's death, Watson became determined to retrieve his friend's lost soul, driven by a desire to prove his scientific hypotheses about true resurrection.
Watson illegally created his own "Necroware" to resurrect Friday, bypassing standard artificial soul technology that allowed reanimated corpses to function as laborers but prevented autonomous thought or speech. These illegal activities attracted the attention of "M," a member of the British Secret Service. To avoid imprisonment, Watson agreed to work as an agent for the British Empire. His primary mission involved retrieving "The Memorandum," Victor Frankenstein's original research notes on reanimating corpses with human souls, believed held by Russian corpse engineer Alexei Karamazov in Kabul.
Accompanied by the reanimated Friday, British Army captain Frederick Burnaby, and guide Nikolai Krasotkin, Watson traveled to Afghanistan and later Japan. During these missions, he witnessed the military use of corpses and encountered advanced reanimated beings displaying unexpected intelligence. Watson discovered that "The One"—Frankenstein's original sentient creation—had survived a century and now orchestrated a plot involving the corpses.
