Description
Sōma is a human character in the 2018 anime series *GeGeGe no Kitarō* and a classmate of Mana Inuyama. He is also Hiroto's older brother. Initially skeptical about yōkai, Sōma openly teases classmate Yūta for believing in them. He is often seen with Hiroto, and their interactions involve light-hearted mischief like joking about Kitarō's signature "clop-clop" sound. Mana frequently reprimands Sōma, sometimes by hitting him, for failing to act responsibly as the older brother when Hiroto bullies Yūta.
Sōma features in several episodic storylines. At Shibuya Crossing, he witnesses supernatural events but remains dismissive until encountering Kitarō directly. He and Hiroto attend "The Batteries" concert, where Miage-Nyūdō transports the audience, including them, to the Spirit World. After Kitarō defeats the yōkai, they return unharmed but confused, and Mana expresses relief. During a school trip to an old house, Sōma and his friend Arimoto roughhouse instead of cleaning, accidentally knocking over a gravestone. This awakens Gasha-Dokuro, which attacks them later in a park, leaving both catatonic. They recover after Kitarō and Kagami-Jijii defeat the yōkai.
In the arc involving the 808 Tanuki's takeover of Japan's government, Sōma and Hiroto fall under their influence, wearing tanuki tails to show allegiance. They participate in bullying another child for being "anti-tanuki" until Mana intervenes. The brothers threaten to report her to the Gyōbu-Danuki but leave to continue harassing the child. After Kitarō defeats the tanuki, Sōma apologizes to Mana the next day, and she reassures him the tanuki were responsible.
Sōma demonstrates protective instincts toward Hiroto, intervening against the yōkai Kamaitachi to prevent harm to his brother. Despite his recurring presence, he remains a secondary character within Mana's friend group without significant development. His role primarily involves reacting to yōkai-related incidents alongside Hiroto and Mana.
