Description
Sōma appears in the 2018 *GeGeGe no Kitarō* anime as a human classmate of Mana Inuyama and the older brother of Hiroto. He is frequently seen with Hiroto, and the brothers often tease their classmate Yūta about his belief in yōkai. Sōma consistently voices skepticism about yōkai, dismissing Yūta's claims and questioning the validity of the Yōkai Post when Mana suggests using it to contact Kitarō.

Mana repeatedly holds Sōma responsible for Hiroto's actions because he is the older brother. This leads to Sōma often receiving physical admonishment from Mana when Hiroto misbehaves, such as bullying Yūta. During a school trip to an old house in episode 8, Sōma and Arimoto neglected cleanup duties while roughhousing, causing Sōma to accidentally knock over a gravestone. This act inadvertently awakened the Gasha-Dokuro yōkai. Later that night, the Gasha-Dokuro attacked Sōma and Arimoto in a park, leaving them catatonic. They were hospitalized and only awakened after Kitarō and Kagami-Jijii defeated the yōkai.

In episode 12, Sōma and Hiroto fell under the influence of the 808 Tanuki after they took over Japan's government. Wearing Tanuki tails to show allegiance, they participated in bullying a child perceived as anti-tanuki. Mana intervened, but Sōma and Hiroto intimidated her, threatening to report her to the Gyōbu-Danuki. After the defeat of the 808 Tanuki, their influence dissipated, and Sōma apologized to Mana the next day; she reassured him the Tanuki were responsible for their actions.

Sōma demonstrates a protective instinct toward Hiroto, such as intervening when the yōkai Kamaitachi threatened Hiroto. In episode 2, Sōma and Hiroto attended a concert by the idol group "The Batteries." During the event, the lights went out, and the yōkai Miage-Nyūdō transported everyone in the stadium, including Sōma and Hiroto, to the Spirit World. After Kitarō defeated Miage-Nyūdō, all affected individuals returned to the human world. Sōma and Hiroto expressed confusion about the incident, and Mana found them, visibly relieved at their safety. Sōma and Hiroto remain largely peripheral figures compared to other human characters.
