Description
Apollo serves as the main antagonist in the Mythos arc. Created by Dr. Gaia, a former Black Ghost scientist, he belongs to a group of cyborgs modeled after Greek gods. Dr. Gaia erased their human memories, implanting false identities that convinced Apollo and the others they were divine beings destined to purge humanity and create a new world. Apollo specifically believes himself the god of the sun and light, embodying traits of his mythological namesake.

His physical appearance reflects fiery abilities: hair resembling flames starting from his eyebrows and glowing orange-red eyes. He wears ancient Greek attire including a chiton, a white cloak fastened by a gold pin, gold armbands, a black belt doubling as a throwing weapon, and gladiator sandals. In battle, his body emits intense heat, creating a luminous glow.

Apollo's personality combines arrogance, destructiveness, and deep devotion to his sister, Artemis. Conditioned to believe in divine invincibility, he views humans as the source of global suffering, necessitating their eradication for a better world. This fuels his ruthless actions, yet he shows unwavering loyalty to Artemis, often defending her against fellow Mythos cyborgs like Minotaur. He addresses her with the respectful, outdated Japanese term "ane-ue," highlighting their bond.

His primary abilities center on pyrokinesis: projecting fire blasts from his palms, firing high-powered lasers from his index finger, and enveloping his body in flames. He possesses an acceleration mode enabling Mach 5 speeds, matching Cyborg 009. His belt transforms into sun-shaped discs that create blinding light and induce earthquakes. He also pilots a chariot drawn by two robotic Pegasi.

Apollo's story begins by orchestrating global disasters to attract the 00 Cyborgs. After overpowering them, he retreats to Magma Island, his group's base. When the 00 Cyborgs invade, Apollo battles Cyborg 009, nearly killing him twice. During their final confrontation, Artemis intercepts Apollo's fatal attack on 009. As she dies, she reveals Dr. Gaia's deception: they are not gods but cyborgs with erased pasts.

Enraged and heartbroken, Apollo kills Dr. Gaia. Facing the collapsing island and his shattered identity, he rejects escape, insisting he is an immortal god. He perishes buried in debris, refusing to accept his humanity.

In other adaptations, Apollo's background varies. The manga depicts him as the Mythos leader, with Artemis named Helena. After her death during the island's destruction, his fate remains unresolved. In *Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman*, he reappears with a revised origin as a psychic mutant. The spin-off *BGOOParts Delete* reimagines him as a poverty-stricken Greek teen who embraced Black Ghost's offer for a godlike existence. A planned 1979 anime appearance was cancelled due to production issues, though concept art showed him facing Cyborg 004 and wearing civilian clothing.

Apollo's narrative consistently revolves around manipulated divinity, familial loyalty, and tragic self-destruction upon confronting the truth of his creation.
