TV Special
Description
Mairin is a young girl who appears in the Pokémon Mega Evolution special series, including Mega Evolution Special IV. She has fair skin, orange eyes, and short, spiky maroon hair. Mairin is deeply caring and emotional, forming a close bond with her partner Pokémon, a Chespin she calls Chespie or Hari-san. Her motivation throughout the story is rooted in her concern for her friend Alain, a powerful Trainer pursuing mastery of Mega Evolution. She worries about his safety and well-being, often trying to stay close to him even when he pushes her away.
In Mega Evolution Special IV, Mairin travels to Kalos alongside the Hoenn Champion Steven Stone to find Alain. She hopes to convince him to resume their journey together, but Alain, focused on a dangerous challenge to defeat ten Mega Evolution users in a row, harshly rebuffs her. Heartbroken, Mairin isolates herself to cry, leaving her Chespin to wander alone. During this time, Chespin discovers a Zygarde Core being experimented on in Lysandre’s laboratory and attempts to help it escape, but the encounter leaves Chespin in a coma. This event devastates Mairin and becomes a major turning point in the story.
Mairin’s key relationships include her friendship with Alain, whom she admires and worries about, and her partnership with her Chespin, which is a source of comfort and joy for her. She also interacts with Professor Sycamore, Steven Stone, and Lysandre, the latter of whom offers to help cure her Pokémon as part of his larger plans. Mairin’s development culminates in her emotional struggle as she confronts Alain’s coldness and Chespin’s mysterious illness, relying on others to support her. She does not possess notable battle abilities herself, as she is not shown as a Trainer in active combat; her strength lies in her empathy and her role as a emotional anchor for Alain. By the end of the special, Mairin remains by Chespin’s side while Alain sets out alone to learn how to use Mega Evolution energy to save the Pokémon and restore her happiness.
