Description
Brass, a high-ranking Dark Army general under Hadlar, served alongside commanders Bartos, Gangadia, and Kigiro. Though the weakest among Hadlar's top four, he managed critical duties like training monsters on Dermline Island using magical transportation tubes. He wore a black tunic and tiara-like headpiece during this era, rarely engaging in direct combat or encountering Avan’s group. Hadlar named him in the Underground Palace, where he once discussed adopting a human child with Bartos, referencing Bartos’s fatherhood of Hyunckel.
After Hadlar’s defeat dispelled dark influences, Brass embraced peace on Dermline Island. Discovering a shipwrecked infant marked with a "D," he named him Dai and raised him as a grandson. Training Dai daily in magic—despite the boy’s struggles and dreams of heroism—Brass became his mentor and protector, guiding him through conflicts with Fake Heroes and the traitor Varon. He also fostered harmony among the island’s monsters as their unofficial leader.
Avan’s arrival to train Dai diminished Brass’s instructional role, but he resurfaced during Crocodine’s invasion of Romos. Brainwashed by Crocodine’s dark magic, Brass fought Dai until Popp freed him from mind control. He later aided Dai and Popp’s quest by retrieving the Crown of Champions for forging Dai’s sword.
Wise and peace-loving, Brass champions human-monster harmony, speaking fluent human language and greeting visitors amiably unless defending himself or others. Under dark influences, his demeanor shifts to destructive and sadistic while retaining intelligence. His deep care for Dai manifests as strict yet affectionate guidance, often clashing with the boy’s heroic ambitions over safety concerns.
As a lump shaman, Brass wields offensive spells including Frizz, Frizzle, Swoosh, and Boom, plus support magic like Midheal, Squelch, and Fuddle. Despite age, he displays capable physical combat. His Midheal is noted as less potent than Maam’s healing.
Brass has light blue skin—diverging from typical red lump shaman depictions—and wields a rod. His eyes show discernible irises but turn blank under dark influences. He possesses a large tail and originally had four fingers per hand in early manga/anime, updated to five in modern adaptations.
In spin-offs like *Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light* and *Joker 3 Professional*, Brass appears via limited-time events, wielding skills such as Kafrizz, Fondle, and Midheal. He also features in collaborations including *Dragon Quest Walk* and *Monster Strike*.
