Description
Hadlar, the former Dark Lord, conquered lands and sowed terror until the hero Avan defeated him fifteen years prior to the main events. Resurrected by the Dark King Vearn, he became supreme commander of the Dark Army's six legions, gaining enhanced strength, speed, and magical power exceeding his former self. His appearance shifted from a hooded Dragonlord-like figure to a muscular form featuring spiked shoulder pads and a breastplate inset with six blue gems symbolizing the legions. After a second resurrection, black tattoo-like markings covered his body. Following repeated defeats by Avan's disciples, especially Dai, Hadlar underwent a metamorphosis into a Superior Being—a perfect chimera. This granted him a taller, imposing physique with organic armor, taloned feet, three forehead horns, and jet-like thrusters for flight, permanently locking him in battle mode at the cost of his original form and lifespan.
Initially defined by extreme cruelty, ruthlessness, and pride, Hadlar reveled in domination and punished failure harshly. He prioritized self-preservation and authority, sometimes withholding strategic information to maintain his position, weakening the Dark Army. His obsession with defeating Dai gradually reshaped him. After embracing his limitations and the Superior Being transformation, he discarded pride and ambition, adopting a noble, honorable fighting style. He grew disgusted by underhanded tactics, imprisoning subordinates who used them, and developed genuine concern for his Royal Guards, creations forged through forbidden magic. Discovering a Black Core—a detonator implanted by Vearn for a cheap victory—shattered his loyalty. He defected, saved Avan's disciples from Killvearn's traps, and openly attacked Vearn. Fatally wounded, he expressed remorse for Avan's "death," protected the disciples, and died in Avan's arms acknowledging their growth. Posthumously, his soul inhabited Hym, an Orichalcum Guard, allowing him to persist as an independent entity.
Hadlar wielded formidable physical might and potent magic, specializing in fire and explosive spells like Kaboom and Kasizz, his flames clinging to targets until incineration. He passively corrupted monsters to evil, sprouted extendable Hell Claws from his knuckles to slice armor, and survived fatal injuries via dual hearts and regeneration. As a Superior Being, he gained near-instantaneous regeneration, propelled flight, and fused the indestructible orichalcum Sword of Champions to his right arm. His left arm unleashed a Hell Chain for binding or infused attacks, culminating in the aura-based explosion Ultra Combustion Slash. His dark fire aura fueled offense and mobility.
Key relationships included a fierce rivalry with Avan and Dai, later maturing into respect for them as worthy adversaries; service to Vearn that turned to betrayal; mentorship under Mystvearn who aided his transformation; and a paternal bond with his Royal Guards, particularly Albinass who loved him. His creations reflected his evolution: Flazzard embodied his early thirst for power, while the honorable Royal Guards mirrored his later principles. He appeared in games like *Dragon Quest Tact* and *A Hero's Bonds* as a boss and playable character in both Dark Commander and Superior Being forms, featuring abilities aligned to this lore.
