Description
Jyubei is a middle-aged human male sporting slick brown hair parted in the back, a mustache, and a beard, marked by a distinctive scar across his right eyebrow and eye. He runs Shikabaneya, a corpse-dealing shop specializing in demon remains and coordinating bounty hunting activities. His business revolves around acquiring and trading demon parts, frequently employing bounty hunters to secure valuable specimens.

Fourteen years prior to the main events, Miroku entrusted Jyubei with raising the young raccoon-dog demon Takechiyo after Shōgen Mamiana cursed the boy. Jyubei assigned Takechiyo errands and surveillance tasks. He later reunited with his friend, the wolf demon Yawaragi, during a sugoroku game and facilitated Moroha's entry into bounty hunting. Jyubei maintains a professional relationship with Moroha, assigning her high-value targets like the Four Perils of Kirinmaru. He retains the bulk of her bounty payments, insisting she owes him a massive debt for unspecified reasons, an arrangement that persists until Moroha's parents discover the exploitation and confront him.

Jyubei possesses the Green Rainbow Pearl, which attracts demon bounties and grants him exceptional business luck. His primary client is the pirate Riku, who commissions demon-slaying missions. Jyubei complies due to Riku's generous payments, unaware Riku is an incarnation of Kirinmaru. He directs Moroha and her cousins, Towa and Setsuna, toward targets like Konton and Kyuki, sometimes suggesting the bounties might fund information about the Dream Butterfly. In the manga, Jyubei knew Takechiyo's father, a bounty hunter killed by Konton three years earlier. He reveals Konton's location in Suruga Province to Takechiyo and the protagonists, advancing their quest.

Characterized by greed and pragmatism, Jyubei prioritizes profit. He maintains loyalty to Riku as a reliable customer but shows no sentimental attachment to associates like Yawaragi, whom he describes as secretive about her past. His extensive knowledge of demon hierarchies and events—including the identities of Kirinmaru's underlings—is selectively shared with the bounty hunters he employs.
