TV-Series
Description
Sophie Senoo, born Aiko Senoo on November 14, 1990, enters the series as an eight-year-old elementary student. Upon moving to Misora, her blunt and outspoken nature leads to initial clashes with classmates, creating a negative first impression. Beneath this confident exterior, she grapples with deep-seated vulnerabilities rooted in her parents' divorce. Living solely with her hardworking taxi driver father, Koji Senoo, she suffers from the separation from her mother, Atsuko, in Osaka—a pain intensified after discovering her father withheld her mother's letters to protect her.

Athletic prowess defines Sophie; she excels in most sports, readily accepts challenges, and frequently competes, though swimming initially presents difficulty. She also plays the harmonica. Learning her friends' secret leads her to become a witch apprentice, hoping magic can ease her father's burdens. Despite early struggles memorizing spells, she rapidly masters magical skills, matching her friends' abilities, aided by her fairy companion, Fifi.

Her relationship with her mother remains a central struggle. A visit to Osaka results in a misunderstanding when she sees Atsuko holding a neighbor's baby, mistakenly believing her mother started a new family. During the second season, news of her mother's planned visit rekindles Sophie's hope for reconciliation, and she actively encourages her parents to reunite. Her efforts see partial success when Koji relocates closer to Osaka, facilitating more contact.

In the third season, Sophie supports Momoko Asuka, a new witch apprentice adjusting to Japanese culture after returning from the United States. Her push for parental reconciliation intensifies, culminating in her father proposing remarriage. However, her grandfather's illness forces Atsuko to remain in Osaka, prompting Sophie to consider moving there permanently. Facing a pivotal choice in the fourth season—becoming a full witch to stay with her magical companions or relinquishing magic to live with her reunited family in Osaka—she ultimately chooses her human connections.

Her growth includes confronting vulnerability; beneath her sporty confidence lie fears of abandonment and a longing for familial stability. In the OVA "The Value of Swimming!", she confronts anxiety as anchor in a swim meet, revealing her determination to overcome personal challenges. Another OVA, "Marriage Promise!", explores a childhood promise to a friend named Anrima, adding backstory depth.

Light novel sequels set years later show Sophie pursuing a career in education, becoming a teacher alongside Doremi, reflecting her enduring commitment to supporting others.
