TV-Series
Description
Metako, called Metatron, navigates magical girls for the Light Clan. Initially Sakura Chiyoda's guide, he later served Momo Chiyoda. A confrontation with demon hunter Suika Nayuta exposed him to a Light Clan wish card that restricted his speech. This curse left him capable of uttering only the phrase "The time has come," replacing his former human-like dialogue.
Typically, Metako appears as an ordinary elderly house cat. Yet during supernatural encounters, especially within dream realms, he transforms into a muscular, humanoid guardian retaining his feline head. This imposing form possesses full vocal abilities, contrasting his usual passive state.
Metako's personality evolved across the series. He was wise and active supporting Sakura, but grew lethargic and indistinguishable from a normal cat alongside Momo's waning magical girl motivation and his own advanced age. Despite this, he occasionally displays prophetic insight during positive moods, though his repetitive catchphrase often undercuts these moments.
His functional role surfaces in dreams. When Shamiko infiltrated Momo's subconscious, his guardian form interrogated the intruder with philosophical questions. While protective, Shamiko's distraction at his absurd appearance lessened the scene's impact. Outside such interventions, his passivity reflects both his curse and Momo's dwindling activity.
His design subtly nods to mythological roots; the nickname "Metako" directly references Metatron, a high-ranking angel in Jewish mysticism, underscoring his original purpose as a celestial guide before his speech was sealed.
