Description
Paka is the mysterious game master who oversees the events of the anime Naka no Hito Genome [Jikkyōchū]: Knots of Memories. He first appears after the initial group of players clears the opening stage, introducing himself as a monitoring officer of the game and the person in charge of the 13th district, before bringing the players to the gathering point where the rest of the group is introduced. His face is permanently hidden behind an alpaca-patterned mask, and his name is drawn from the word alpaca, reflecting the animal motif of his disguise. He appears in both the television series and the Knots of Memories installment.

In personality, Paka is outwardly cheerful and light-hearted, carrying himself with a jovial, playful air. He seems to treat the dangerous situations as entertainment and can appear amused by the players' behavior, such as when the protagonist Akatsuki calmly befriends a rampaging panda during the first stage. That pleasant surface, however, hides a darker and far more serious disposition. Whenever a player challenges him or breaks the rules, his tone and attitude shift, and he shows that he will not tolerate defiance.

His place in the story is that of the game master and enforcer of the rules. It is Paka who explains the terms of survival to the eight abducted players: they must clear a series of real-life game stages, gathering items known as chromosomes as proof of completion, while their actions are broadcast in a livestream until they reach a total of one hundred million views. He presents himself as a neutral administrator, but his methods are coercive. Players who resist are not argued with; they are confined to the White Room, a solitary space where they are left to wait alone while the other participants continue the game. His authority over these punishments is what keeps the group compliant, and he monitors their progress throughout their trials.

Paka's relationships with the main characters are defined by his position rather than personal closeness. He is their supervisor, rule setter, and gatekeeper of their freedom, so his interactions are mostly limited to announcements, observations, and warnings. His connection to the players is distant and controlling, though he shows curiosity and amusement toward their individual personalities. He remains an enigmatic figure throughout the series, with his true identity concealed and his deeper reasons for running the game left unexplained, making him a constant but unknowable presence in the group's struggle to return home.

In terms of abilities, Paka does not rely on physical combat. His power comes from his control over the game itself. He can determine the conditions of the stages, appear and address the players whenever he chooses, guide them through the game environment, and enforce punishments, with imprisonment in the White Room being the most severe measure. Combined with his unpredictable mood, this control over the game's infrastructure makes him a formidable authority that the players cannot simply fight or outrun.
