OVA
Description
Murakumo is a third-year Gessen Girls' Academy student instantly recognizable by the distinctive white ogre mask she constantly wears, concealing her face during both combat and daily life. This mask fosters an intimidating battle persona marked by a deeper vocal tone and confident demeanor. Removing the mask reveals extreme shyness and social anxiety, causing her to stammer and become incoherent. Despite peer reassurances about her appearance, deep insecurity compels her to urgently retrieve her mask or improvise facial coverings from any available object, including clothing, if separated from it.
In combat, she wields a spear in her left hand and a large cleaver in her right. Though her movements might seem slow due to the cleaver's size, it delivers devastating blows. She wears armor reminiscent of Sengoku-period warlords, paired with a red flower-trimmed haori, and stands taller than most female characters at 5'8".
Personally, Murakumo possesses an empirical curiosity and creativity, frequently drawing manga and seeking references from peers for her artwork. Her creative process sometimes involves unconventional methods, like experimenting with peers' physical attributes to capture authentic details. She shares a close bond with her Gessen teammates, particularly Yomi, her inseparable childhood friend. Yomi often dined with Murakumo's family due to her own parents' absence. This relationship becomes central when they later reunite as adversaries.
Her background involves significant trauma: her parents died in an incident she believed was a shinobi assassination, contradicting official reports of a car accident. This triggered an inferiority complex, leading her to hide her face under bags as a child, a behavior Yomi mirrored in solidarity. Murakumo was subsequently adopted first by Kurokage, Gessen's mentor, and later by the CEO of the Tairō family corporation. These adoptions separated her from both Kurokage and Yomi, reinforcing her isolation.
During the Shinovi Versus Shinobi Battle Royale, Murakumo confronts Yomi as an "evil shinobi." Initially insisting their opposing alignments necessitate combat, she ultimately removes her mask after defeating Yomi, acknowledging friendship transcends shinobi factions. This act symbolizes growth in overcoming insecurity to prioritize personal bonds. Her development continues when she intervenes to halt the Tairō Corporation's slum redevelopment project, prompted by Ikaruga's pleas and the revelation that Yomi lives there, demonstrating a newfound willingness to challenge her family's directives for moral reasons.
In the "Festival Eve Full of Swimsuits" OVA, during a spa resort truce water cavalry battle, her mask is knocked off. Unable to retrieve it, she improvises by covering her face with her swimsuit top, reinforcing her characteristic reliance on facial concealment when exposed, even in non-combat scenarios.
