Description
Saki Yamamori is a fourteen-year-old girl who leaves her home in Kyoto Prefecture to pursue her dream of becoming a famous actress in Tokyo. She meets Yoko Tanaka on a bullet train to the city, and the two quickly form a close bond, deciding to support each other's careers in the entertainment industry.
Saki is level-headed, intelligent, and frequently pessimistic, often expressing her bleak outlook with phrases like "the future is dark" or "my future is dark." This demeanor arises from her past struggles with severe agoraphobia and a friendless background before meeting Yoko. In contrast to Yoko's athleticism and academic success, Saki describes herself as clumsy and unskilled at sports. She excels, however, at mental arithmetic and managing finances, often taking on odd jobs to support herself and Yoko.
Her appearance includes blue hair styled in a traditional Hime cut. Initially aloof and secretive, she often wears cool shades when first met, though she removes them as she grows closer to Yoko. Saki's personal style is practical and less flamboyant than Yoko's, though her acting work requires her to wear various elaborate costumes.
A significant aspect of her personality is her admiration for the plays of Lionel Webber. Her goal to become an actress is partly a way to overcome her social phobia. Throughout her journey, she evolves from a shy, reclusive individual into a more confident person, though she often remains the pragmatic and logical counterpart to Yoko's relentless optimism. Their relationship is described as a pseudo-romantic friendship and a modern take on the Kirk/Spock or McCoy/Spock dynamic, with Saki fulfilling the role of The Spock.
Her background includes having no friends prior to Yoko due to agoraphobia. After being scouted in Shibuya alongside Yoko, she joins the agency I STAR Productions. There, she finds a supportive environment and a Cool Big Sis figure in Kumiko Yoshiaki, a former singer and senior at the agency. Her relationship with Yoko is central to her development, as Yoko's positive influence helps Saki challenge her negative thoughts and become more open.
