AI is a cyberdoll appearing in the spin-off OVA "Hand Maid Mai", designed to resemble a middle-aged version of Mai Kurosawa, Hideo Ozu's childhood friend. She arrives at Hideo's residence alongside cyberdolls Mai (adult) and Mie (young) after he encounters Cyberdoll Sara and signs an invoice while intoxicated. The trio aims to support Hideo's filmmaking ambitions following the real Mai Kurosawa seizing his amateur footage of her and severing contact. When Mai Kurosawa announces a biography using Hideo's footage, he resolves to create his own film project, employing the three cyberdolls as stand-ins representing different life stages of his former friend. Only one of the three planned OVA episodes was released before distributor bankruptcy halted the project.
