Description
Kanon Shibuya is a third-year student at Yuigaoka Girls' High School. She leads and founded the school idol group Liella! and its subunit CatChu!. Her vibrant yet grounded presence is symbolized by her marigold image color (#ff7f27).

Her father works as a translator, while her mother runs a café. Kanon often assists there, serving specialties like baked apples with cream and creating latte art. She lives with a pet Eurasian scops owl named Manmaru, who acts as the café mascot. Kanon has a younger sister. Her childhood friend, Chisato Arashi, frequently visits the café; they interacted with Manmaru as children, and Kanon once protected Chisato from bullies, demonstrating her innate sense of justice. Kanon's grandmother is Spanish, making her quarter-Spanish, though this heritage receives less emphasis in later anime timelines.

Initially shy and prone to nervousness, particularly in communication and public performances, Kanon suffers severe stage fright. This caused her to faint during auditions, leading to enrollment in the general academic program instead of Yuigaoka's music course. Despite this, she deeply loves singing, often humming privately while wearing Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones. She views herself as ordinary yet harbors a desire to inspire others through music. Kanon exhibits exceptional empathy, kindness, and selflessness, consistently prioritizing others' well-being. She befriends even those who treat her poorly, like Wien Margarete, and maintains idealism against cynicism—defending Natsumi Onitsuka against "gold-digger" accusations. At home, she displays a more blunt, boyish side, tying her hair up and wearing glasses.

Her development focuses on overcoming performance anxiety. After Keke Tang recruits her for school idols, Kanon gradually confronts her fears. Key milestones include accepting her passion for music in Season 1, performing solo at her former elementary school encouraged by Chisato, and later becoming Liella!'s primary lyricist and composer. Her leadership evolves through nurturing others: she recruits members like Sumire Heanna by appealing to their egos and detects emotional nuances in peers, such as Chisato's hidden anxieties. In Season 2, she volunteers as student council vice president to support Ren Hazuki, reflecting her growing confidence. By Season 3, she advances to third-year studies, mentors newer members, and solidifies her role as Liella!'s unifying force.

Kanon's hobbies include yoga (using a "concentrating pose" for brainstorming), restoring outfits with Keke, and caring for animals—notably playing with stray cats. She dreams of owning a cat. Her favorite saying, "It's always sunny above the clouds," underscores her optimistic outlook. She dislikes revealing clothing but adapts to stage costumes and sings loudly in the bath, much to her family's annoyance.

Throughout the series, Kanon transitions from self-doubt to a resilient, charismatic leader who inspires her peers while staying true to her empathetic core.
