TV-Series
Description
Kanon Miyamori is a high school senior residing on a remote island, presenting an initially aloof and cynical demeanor. This stems from a childhood incident where her portrayal of an evil tree in a school play generated a lasting "evil aura" perceived as intimidating by others, resulting in social isolation. This aura provides immunity to supernatural corruption and signifies an innate connection to darkness, widely misunderstood by those around her.

Her early development centers on her relationship with ex-boyfriend Kojima; she ended their bond due to insecurities about rejection and abandonment, discarding his gifted ring into the ocean. This act inadvertently triggers the release of the sealed entity Sedna when mermaids Marin and Urin retrieve the ring and surface. Kanon’s guilt over this event, coupled with Urin’s accidental role in breaking Sedna’s seal, compels her reluctant acceptance of her destiny as the Priestess of the Sky—a magical guardian combating darkness alongside Marin, the Priestess of the Sea.

Kanon struggles with her role, feeling inadequate compared to Marin’s natural magical aptitude. She wields fire-based elemental powers but hesitates to use them, mirroring her fear of emotional vulnerability and deep connections. Her growth involves confronting insecurities, particularly her tendency to push people away preemptively, evident in her initial dismissal of Marin’s friendship attempts. Gradually, her bond with Marin thaws her reserve and fosters empathy.

Beyond Marin, she maintains a strained yet caring dynamic with her mother Miyako, who runs a fortune-telling business and pressures Kanon about her future. Classmates like Suzuki recognize Kanon’s history of accepting undesirable tasks to avoid conflict, reflecting her complex social standing. Rivalry with Oshima, who harbors interest in Kojima, adds interpersonal tension.

Kanon’s pivotal evolution occurs during the confrontation with Sedna. Facing despair and potential loss, she realizes Sedna embodies the islanders’ accumulated, discarded sorrow rather than confronting emotions. This shifts her approach from combat to understanding; she helps the islanders acknowledge and integrate their suppressed sadness, peacefully resolving the conflict and freeing Urin from Sedna’s influence.

Post-Sedna, her separation from Marin is bittersweet due to their differing worlds. In the OVA "Shinjiau Kokoro," set one year later, Kanon pursues oceanography—demonstrating her enduring sea connection and Marin’s impact—and actively seeks ways to bridge their worlds.

Physically, she has green hair cut to neck length, red eyes, and typically wears her high school uniform: a sailor collar, ribbon tie, skirt, knee-high socks, and Mary Jane shoes.
