Riri is the young daughter of Kouchuu Kanshou. Kidnapped by antagonists seeking leverage over her mother, she becomes separated from Kouchuu, forcing Kouchuu into an assassination attempt on a prince during a wedding procession, a plot forming a significant part of her background in the anime adaptation. Her rescue is facilitated by Kan'u Unchou, Rinrin, and their allies, who intervene to free her from captivity. Following this trauma, Riri develops a strong fondness for the protagonist Kazuto, who rescues her in the visual novel continuity, frequently seeking his company afterward. In the anime's second season, she forms a close friendship with Batai, whom she admires and spends considerable time alongside.

Riri exhibits an energetic, curious, and kind personality, notably possessive in her affections and consistently referring to herself in the third person. Her curiosity often leads her to involve herself in matters beyond her understanding, such as offering unconventional reconciliation advice to Rinrin based on observations of her parents' interactions before her father's death. Domestically, she assists her mother with household chores like dishwashing to the extent possible for her age.

In the visual novel series, including Shin Koihime†Musou and its sequels like Moeshouden and Kakumei, Riri appears as a recurring side character. Her mother, Kouchuu, expresses a desire for Kazuto to become Riri's lover once she reaches appropriate age. An adult Riri makes a brief cameo appearance cooking during a flashback sequence in Sengoku†Koihime X, with no explicit confirmation regarding whether Kouchuu's wish occurs in this future timeline.

Her historical counterpart is Huang Xu (known as Kōkoku in Japanese), framed as her future adult name within the series' lore. Additionally, she appears in the spin-off Suzukuri Karin-chan alongside her mother, Shion.
