TV-Series
Description
Rei Tsukumo is a high school student and member of the Hero Club, recognizable by his short, messy pink hair, golden eyes, and an assortment of ear piercings. He favors a distinctive style: a white hoodie adorned with cat ears on the hood, layered over a green and purple leopard-print hoodie that has a tail, paired with purple pants and white and pink shoes.
His demeanor is smug and manipulative, marked by suggestive behavior and mastermind-like speech—a front he uses to deflect sympathy and conceal his insecurities and a perceived lack of coolness. This narcissistic facade emerges in moments like his self-assessments about being a suitable pretend boyfriend, yet beneath it lies a fundamentally cowardly nature.
At home, Rei is skilled in cooking and regularly prepares meals for his family. He pretends to enjoy black coffee despite an aversion to it. He owns a calico cat named Benjamin, toward whom he shows deep affection, and has three older sisters who are fond of his cousin, Futaba Mikuriya—a dynamic that influences his behavior around them.
Rei is often seen apart from group activities and has been accused of causing strange occurrences. He participates in club investigations and schemes, trailing peers at the mall and holding discreet conversations with other students. He volunteers for tasks such as finding a pretend boyfriend for Nanako Watase.
His relationships within the club are defined by distinct interactions: he occasionally calls Yamato Noda an idiot, and Mizuki Hijiri views him as mysterious and dangerous—an impression he undermines by laughing inexplicably in her presence. As Futaba Mikuriya’s cousin, Rei is privy to their secrets but keeps them hidden until Futaba decides to disclose them. He works alongside Kazuhiro Nakamura in club activities and, together with Tomoki Takashima, was considered one of the more normal-seeming members before Futaba joined. Rei also engages in private discussions outside of school with the third-year student Takumi Sekiya.
The name Rei means "zero" or "nought," and his surname, Tsukumo, means "ninety-nine."
