Ray is a kindhearted boy living on Okinawa Island who devotes himself to safeguarding the island's natural forests and coral reefs from destruction, no matter the personal toll. His parents perished in a tidal wave while fishing, an event connected to environmental degradation caused by deforestation that resulted in silt erosion damaging the reefs.

Ray receives a magical shell from a Coral Sea mermaid, who teaches him that "the greatest treasure in life is a sincere heart" able to create positive change. This shell contains stellar life energy transferred from dying stars, allowing those with kind hearts to wield its power. Ray repeatedly uses the shell to heal others at his own expense: reviving his dying sister, aiding his cousin and uncle injured by samurai-enforced deforestation, and later healing a princess's partial blindness.

Ray confronts the king, revealed as his father and a puppet of the ruling samurai, condemning the environmental destruction caused by their deforestation orders for Shuri Castle construction. His commitment to protecting Okinawa's nature and people remains unwavering, embodying selflessness through compassionate actions despite uncovering the complex truths about his family and the political forces harming the island.
