Description
Claude, firstborn son of Emperor Pierre Jean Ellmeyer and grandson of Dowager Empress Lara Jean Ellmeyer, endured multiple assassination attempts in his youth due to his status as heir, each time saved by demonic intervention. Keith Eigrid, a noble's son two years his senior, was assigned as his guardian and childhood friend, though Claude always placed unwavering trust in him. That trust was tested when Claude secretly used magic to save Keith from drowning, an act that exposed his demonic nature and provoked fear and hatred among the nobility and servants. His identity as the Demon King shook the royal family's authority, prompting Emperor Pierre to sign a Nonaggression Pact that granted demons an abandoned castle and surrounding lands as a safe haven, with mutual promises of non-harm between demons and humans.
His first meeting with Aileen Lauren d'Autriche occurred during her visit to propose marriage. Surprised by her lack of fear and even delight at his magic, Claude was strongly impressed by her determination. He overlooked actions such as her paralyzing a crow demon with cookies and attempting to dose him with an aphrodisiac, agreeing to escort her to a royal ball to annul her engagement with his younger brother, Cedric Jean Ellmeyer. He also permitted restoration of the abandoned castle, a collaborative effort between humans and demons that slowly improved relations between them.
For the ball, Claude sent Aileen a dress and accessories to match his own attire. He resisted romantic advances from Lilia, teleporting her to a manure pit instead. When Cedric, Marcus, and Lilia later visited to reveal Keith’s trafficking of demons, Claude remained calm as Aileen defended against their accusations with legal and moral arguments, driving them away. Keith knelt in apology, though he had to complete a task for Aileen before fully confessing.
After Aileen was kidnapped, Claude flew to her rescue and destroyed the building where she was held. Seeing her bound and nearly unclothed enraged him, triggering a transformation into a dragon. In this form, he watched her absorb the Sacred Sword meant to kill him. Moved by her tearful plea for a shared future, he returned to human form. He later visited her during her recovery and spoke with her father, who stated she was meant to be an emperor’s wife—prompting Claude to declare his intention to become emperor.
Claude and Aileen were formally presented to the nobility and the Ellmeyer altar as Crown Prince and fiancée, after which he happily carried her away. When demons in the Duchy of Mirchetta rebelled under Ashtart, opposing his engagement and demanding Aileen’s head, Claude became principal of Mischa Academy to investigate and calm tensions, forbidding Aileen from joining. They exchanged letters, his passionate and hers lukewarm until she matched his tone. At the school festival, Claude grew angry when the Duck Squad insulted Aileen’s appearance and discreetly destroyed lamps containing demon snuff. After more snuff was released, he dispersed the smoke and evacuated everyone. Furious at Aileen for endangering herself, he commissioned an ice cage for her, accidentally freezing the castle. When she defended her actions citing past trauma, he destroyed the cage and accepted her recommendation that Duck Squad members serve as his guards and representatives.
Claude later expressed displeasure when Aileen risked herself again, though he conceded she had not acted alone. He rescued her from falling out a window and noted unease with her reliance on other men. When he mysteriously lost his memory and magic, his family hid him from Aileen and the demons, warning that Aileen was his untrustworthy fiancée and would be executed if seen near him. Still, she sneaked in to see him, though he tried to rebuff her. During an inspection march where she attended disguised as Ailey Caloise, Claude pulled her aside to argue her presence was dangerous, a point Cedric dismissed as futile against her stubbornness. Their carriage was later taken by a cyclops addressing Claude as king and claiming to act on his wishes. After Aileen slapped him and vowed to disappear if that was his desire, Claude found himself saddened and distracted by her absence. Keith and Beelzebuth reintroduced themselves as his right and left hand men, convincing him to send Aileen a dress for a ball.
At the event, Aileen arrived in a duck head costume. Claude took her to a summerhouse to reconcile, stating that though his memory was gone, his body remembered and loved her. Upon returning, Aileen was accused of infidelity with Elefas. As Claude asked for the truth, she began to confirm the allegations until Almond interrupted and was fatally shot. This partially reawakened Claude’s magic, and he teleported Aileen’s camp to safety. Distracted, he was stabbed by Lilia with a Sacred Sword; she proclaimed herself the heroine and Aileen the protagonist before opening demon snuff, causing him to lose consciousness. He awoke after the fighting ceased and rescued Aileen, announcing the Emperor and Dowager Empress were ill and would step down. He and Aileen married, becoming Crown Prince and Crown Princess, though Claude was disappointed to find her fully asleep on their wedding night.
In time, Claude continued to struggle with fully controlling his powers.
