TV-Series
Description
Pele Poporo serves as a sergeant under Lyne Mei in the Althean Royal Guard, operating under a fabricated identity. His true self is Gespenst Zerlegen, one of the seven Legendary Red Barons known specifically as the "Pierce Baron" or "Ace of Piercing Strikes". This concealed status includes his role as the Colonel General of the clandestine White Special Service, a shadow operations unit founded during the Abandonment War. His background involves severe childhood trauma, having been sold by his parents to various individuals in exchange for food, forging deep distrust towards others. This experience led him to the 13th Special Military Forces School and later the Baron surgery, becoming a Red Baron. His covert activities kept his identity hidden from the other Barons.
After the creation of Althea and the Abyss, Gespenst continued directing the Special Service, aiding their takeover of the royal family and control of the floating utopia. Roughly 300 years later, he received orders to assassinate Jail Murdoch and the Gefängnis unit, deemed the most dangerous elements of the Royal Guard. Infiltrating Gefängnis under the alias "Pele Poporo", his mission failed due to Jail Murdoch's acute situational awareness, forcing him to remain embedded within the unit. Assigned to the remote town of Hoemmh alongside Lyne Mei, he described this period as "living in hell," maintaining his cover as a carefree subordinate who frequently teased Lyne about her clumsiness and uniform. He subtly manipulated situations, such as orchestrating her initial interactions with Licht Bach.
During the Legendary Red Baron arc, Pele's actions gradually expose his dual nature. While presenting loyalty to Lyne and the Royal Guard, he displays tactical cunning, identifying Licht as a wanted Baron and coordinating with villagers during crises. His allegiance to the Special Service surfaces when its operatives attack civilians. He intervenes to save Lyne from assassination by a fellow Special Service agent, taking a punch intended for her, hinting at conflicted loyalties. His true identity is fully revealed when the Special Service launches its operation, confirming him as their commander.
Personality-wise, Gespenst embodies calculated ruthlessness, willing to eliminate displeasing allies and displaying a cold wartime demeanor. Despite this, his interactions as Pele show protective instincts, particularly toward Lyne. His feelings for her evolve from teasing to genuine romantic attachment, though he initially suppresses them, even attempting to match her with Licht. Following the collapse of Schmelman Bach's regime and the resolution of the Last War, Gespenst abandons his covert role. The epilogue confirms his relationship with Lyne progresses into a committed partnership. They attend Hina's childbirth together, where Lyne expresses a desire for children, prompting a flustered but earnest response from Gespenst about building their relationship foundation first.
His Baron ability grants combat-focused clairvoyance, specifically mind-reading, aiding strategic assessments during battles, such as analyzing Licht's fluctuating power during conflicts with Sonohara Mizuka. This power remains consistent across his appearances.
