Description
Sanji, originally named Vinsmoke Sanji, is the third son of the Germa Kingdom's ruling Vinsmoke Family in the North Blue, granting him former princely status. His mother Vinsmoke Sora ingested an experimental drug during pregnancy to negate genetic modifications orchestrated by his father Vinsmoke Judge. This intervention preserved Sanji's human emotions and vulnerabilities, leading Judge to brand him a failure. Consequently, Sanji endured brutal abuse from his siblings and imprisonment before escaping Germa with aid from his sister Reiju, irrevocably abandoning his family and title.
After fleeing, Sanji served as a cook aboard the cruise liner Orbit until attacked by the pirate "Red Leg" Zeff. Stranded together on a barren rock outcrop, Sanji discovered Zeff had surrendered all food to him and amputated his own leg to avoid consuming shared rations. This ordeal cemented Sanji's life principle: never deny food to anyone, irrespective of intent or situation. Zeff subsequently mentored him at the Baratie restaurant, imparting advanced culinary skills and the "Black Leg Style" combat system—a kick-focused martial art designed to protect his hands for cooking.
Sanji joined the Straw Hat Pirates as cook after the Baratie Arc, pursuing his dream to locate the All Blue, a fabled sea merging fish from all oceans. He stands among the crew's "Monster Trio" alongside Luffy and Zoro for his battle prowess. His initial bounty of 77,000,000 Belly, issued post-Enies Lobby, later surged to 1,032,000,000 Belly following the Onigashima Raid. His bounty poster once specified "Only Alive" due to interference from Judge.
Typically calm and strategic, Sanji exhibits extreme chivalry toward women, refusing to harm them under any circumstances—a tenet instilled by Zeff. His reactions to female beauty involve comedic obsessions like nosebleeds or exaggerated flirtations, exacerbated by two years of isolation from women during training on Momoiro Island. Despite these tendencies, he prioritizes crew safety over personal desires, as demonstrated when rejecting Charlotte Pudding's marriage proposal to protect allies. He frequently separates from the group during crises to execute covert support operations, such as disabling enemy infrastructure or rescuing comrades.
A heavy smoker since his Baratie days to project maturity, Sanji habitually interjects "shit" or "shitty" into speech to convey frustration or enthusiasm. He displays intellectual resourcefulness, outmaneuvering foes like Crocodile through deception and foresight, often signaling successful plans with "Bingo!"
In combat, Sanji exclusively employs kicks to safeguard his hands. Signature techniques include "Diable Jambe," igniting his legs via friction-generated heat, and post-timeskip "Sky Walk," enabling aerial mobility through rapid leg movements. During the Whole Cake Island Arc, he acquired a Germa Raid Suit that activated latent genetic modifications, boosting his durability, regeneration, and speed. He later fused these enhancements with Armament Haki to create "Ifrit Jambe," producing blue-white flames. He wields both Observation Haki for threat anticipation and Armament Haki for offense and defense.
Throughout the Fish-Man Island Saga, Sanji journeyed with the Straw Hats through the submerged kingdom. His fervent admiration for mermaids triggered severe nosebleeds that nearly killed him via blood loss. He battled the New Fish-Man Pirates and witnessed the kingdom's racial strife, reflecting his narrative of confronting prejudice rooted in his abusive past. Post-saga, his genetic enhancements fully manifested during clashes with Queen and Kizaru, though he maintained his ethical convictions despite these changes.
