Description
Chloe is a main character from the visual novel and anime Kuroinu: Kedakaki Seijo wa Hakudaku ni Somaru. She is a young woman of the dark elf race, distinguished by her blonde hair, red eyes, and tanned skin. Chloe is specifically a half-breed, born from a human father and a dark elf mother, though her dark elf heritage is far more prominent in her appearance and identity.

Chloe's past is defined by trauma. As a child, she was captured and kept as a slave by a human master who subjected her to severe abuse. This early life of suffering instilled in her a deep-seated hatred for humanity, a hatred that extends to her own human half and makes her a character who despises a part of her own lineage. Her life changed when she was rescued by Olga Discordia, the formidable queen of the dark elves. In gratitude for her salvation, Chloe pledged her life to Olga's service, becoming her most loyal knight and personal aide.

Chloe's personality is characterized by her serious, dutiful, and stubborn nature. She is a capable and skilled warrior, a fact born from her experience as the queen's right hand, and she carries herself with a stern professionalism. Despite her tough exterior and hatred for humans, she is not portrayed as cruel or unintelligent; her harshness is a direct result of the suffering she endured. Her primary motivation is absolute loyalty to Olga Discordia, a devotion so profound that it remains unshakable even as her queen's power begins to wane. This dedication goes beyond that of a subject and a knight, with some interpretations suggesting a deep, possibly romantic, devotion that she only acts upon under extreme duress.

In the story, Chloe serves as the Dragon, the fiercely loyal bodyguard to Queen Olga. Her role is to stand by her queen's side, defend her, and carry out her will. When the mercenary group known as the Black Dogs, led by the ruthless Vult, invades the dark elf kingdom on behalf of the Human-High Elf Alliance, Chloe fights to protect her queen. However, they are ultimately defeated, and both Chloe and Olga are taken as prisoners. Her role then shifts from protector to captive, and her narrative arc follows her capture and the subsequent efforts to break her spirit and loyalty. Her key relationship is, without question, with Olga Discordia, to whom she is completely devoted. Her other defining relationship is with humanity itself; her hatred for them is a central component of her identity, forged by her childhood as a slave. While she despises humans, her hybrid nature makes her a boomerang bigot, a member of a group she herself hates.

Throughout the narrative, Chloe's character undergoes a forced and tragic development. While she starts as a proud, stubborn, and capable knight, her captivity is designed to break her will through various forms of degradation and corruption. As a prisoner, she is systematically subjected to trauma aimed at destroying her loyalty and sense of self, ultimately leading to a state of mindbreak where her original personality is subsumed. In some adaptations, such as the manga, her loyalty even twists into a possessive desire to be the one to defile her queen. As a half-dark elf knight, Chloe possesses abilities that make her a formidable warrior. She is a skilled combatant, proficient enough to serve as the queen's personal guardian. Her abilities are sufficient to defeat large enemies when she is in good health, though her effectiveness can be severely hampered by mistreatment or exhaustion.
