TV-Series
Description
Nanaoka leads a television film crew for a financially troubled network. After the network's top show is canceled following public indecency complaints, he must direct an expedition to remote Ecuana to document the mythical Kiina creature – a mission essential to staving off company bankruptcy. As team leader, he answers directly to network executives imposing increasingly unreasonable demands under severe budget cuts.
Persistent workplace adversity has forged noticeable rough edges in his character. He maintains a complex dynamic with crew members Nanamori (cameraman) and Nanayama (assistant director/audio specialist), who face his unpredictable directives and whims. These range from navigating dangerous assignments to enduring life-or-death karaoke challenges he initiates.
Facing career extinction, Nanaoka spearheads high-stakes projects across seasons. In season two, after the network's acquisition by major streamer Nanazon Prime Video, his Expedition Team faces layoffs due to their lack of hits since the Kiina documentary. To avoid termination, he directs Nanamori and Nanayama in a new venture: unearthing the hidden treasure of Banakawa House for a televised special, capitalizing on a project that eluded other networks despite heavy investment.
Throughout these trials, he operates within gray morality, driven by the need to preserve his job and team. His motivations align with, or are complicated by, unreasonable management expectations, including those of a caricatured executive resembling Donald Trump ("Nanaonald Trump") who instigates severe Nanazon staff cuts. Nanaoka anchors the crew's endeavors across satirical environments, politically incorrect caricatures, absurd scenarios, escalating workplace satire, and shifting media landscapes.
