Description
Chris Yukine, born December 28, 2026, is the daughter of musicians Masanori Yukine and Sonnet M. Yukine. At eight years old, her parents died in a Val Verde terrorist attack during a humanitarian mission; she was then kidnapped and sold into sex trafficking. Rescued by the United Nations after six years and returned to Japan, she was immediately kidnapped by Finé. Finé subjected her to torture and exploitation, forcing her to use her singing voice to activate the relic Solomon's Cane for Noise control.
Initially an antagonist in season 1, Chris wielded the Nehushtan Armor under Finé's command, attacking other Symphogear users and targeting Hibiki Tachibana for capture. After failing to capture Hibiki and being abandoned by Finé, she underwent a redemption arc. She switched relics to Ichaival and joined the organization S.O.N.G. to fight Noise and related threats, symbolizing her transition to protagonist. Her character development continued across later seasons as she worked to overcome her traumatic past, gradually learning to trust others and forming bonds with fellow Symphogear users Hibiki Tachibana, Tsubasa Kazanari, Shirabe Tsukuyomi, and Kirika Akatsuki.
Physically, Chris stands 153 cm tall, a stature likely impacted by malnutrition during trafficking. She has purple eyes and lavender hair, which turns white from season 2 onward. Her casual outfits evolved: a maroon one-piece in season 1, a red-and-maroon dress in season 2 (G), and a lilac shirt with red shorts in season 3 (GX). Her Symphogear armor, Ichaival, features metallic accents and facilitates long-range combat.
Personality-wise, Chris exhibits a tsundere demeanor, initially hostile, aggressive, and deeply distrustful of adults due to her trauma. Over time, she becomes more open and caring, though she remains socially awkward and easily embarrassed by physical affection or intimate gestures. Academically, she excels despite a late start in formal education, achieving high grades. She demonstrates strategic intelligence in combat, improvising tactics against adversaries.
As a Symphogear user, Chris specializes in long-range attacks using Ichaival, generating projectile-based Armed Gears and employing "gun kata" techniques. Her musical motif is rock; her solo songs include "Makyū Ichaival" and "GUN BULLET XXX," often featuring profanity or defiance. Initially hating singing due to its association with Solomon's Cane's destruction, she later embraced it as a tool for protection and peace, epitomized in songs like "SONG FOR THE WORLD."
In spin-offs like the *Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mei* event "Warrior Princess March," Chris appears as a dimensional agent tracking artifacts, collaborating with local characters to defeat a reawakened Nephilim.
Key relationships include her paternal bond with guardian Genjuro Kazanari; her healing friendships with Hibiki Tachibana and Miku Kohinata; and her later mentorship of Shirabe Tsukuyomi and Kirika Akatsuki, where she struggled but eventually accepted a senior role. Her character arc culminates in embracing her parents' dream of world peace through music.
