Description
Shinichi Chiba captains and plays center for Shinmaruko High's basketball team. Towering at approximately 200 cm, he earned the nickname "Gorilla" from teammate Tarou. He sports medium-length black spiky hair and wears jersey number 4 with "Air Force 1 Mid" sneakers during games.

Hailing from Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, Chiba began basketball young. Standing only around 165 cm in middle school, his height barred him from official games, cementing his belief that basketball demands tall players. This led him to reject applicants under 170 cm for Shinmaruko High's team. Witnessing Sora Kurumatani's skills against Kuzuryū High shifted his perspective, making him regret his stance. His mini-basketball days included playing alongside Takahashi, who later joined Shinjo Towa Academy.

As captain, Chiba leads passionately, rallying teammates and enforcing discipline. He values honest play, explicitly rejecting dirty tactics. His game thrives in the paint, using his size for rebounding and shot-blocking. He excels at layups, dunks, and free throws, though his outside shooting lags. Statistically, his physical ability and stamina rate 10/10, technique 8/10, mental strength 9/10, and special ability 7/10.

Following Shinmaruko High's loss to Yokohama Taiei High in the Kanagawa finals, Chiba retired from high school basketball. He declined an offer from Johoku University, avoiding where former mini-basketball teammates Takahashi and Kojima planned to enroll. Later, he joined Takahashi and Kojima for the Monster Bash Tournament as "The Gorillaz," losing a close second-round match to Kuzuryū High. During this event, he acknowledged Chiaki Hanazono's talent by gifting him his "Air Force 1 Mid" sneakers.

His name, Shinichi (真一), combines characters for "truth/reality" (真) and "one" (一), while Chiba (千葉) translates to "thousand leaves."
